TOS Type II Phaser Replica (my final attempt (no, really))

It should have been in primer by now step it up kid! ;) ;)
Keep yer red shirt on, Dad.

Weather holds out, second primer on.
Plus a lot of little things I didn't take pictures of: bent the side rails to the correct curve of my P1 & sanded the edges to round 'em slightly, primed the top of the ten turn for painting, sanded off the red top of the watch crown & glued on a faux blue saphire in its' place, found a hollow tube just the size of the clear emitter & floor waxed it into place just inside to simulate that thicker part near the front, and cleaned the sink where I did the wet sanding earlier.

I do, but I take it off for really precise work because my magnifying glasses tend to fog up. Then I just shallow breathe...
Okay, first priming. Tomorrow I can see I'll have to do the wet sanding. The final part isn't arriving for several days, anyway.

Thats where I left my key fob, was lookin everywhere! :p This is such a great build, cant wait to see the final results. Really great potential here for accuracy.

Speaking of accuracy, gosh darn it, I failed to check the slope above the nozzle. It needs not to be perfectly straight. Tomorrow I'll have to fix it & re-prime that part. Oh well, better to catch it now than after I finish! And it's only like a half mm.... (My first Cyberia phaser pictured here for reference, not the kit I'm currently working on)

No biggie not all of the screen used phasers had that angle

I took care of that last thing without too much fuss, but now I have another problem. The fins the kit came with just don't sand smooth very well at all. Looks all jaggedy still despite my best efforts. And the metal replacement part is made specifically for the DST, it's just all kinds of wrong.
What to do? Make them from scratch out of sheet styrene. I just got back from the store with the 1.5mm sheet. I have the 1mm for the spacers already from working on the P1.
AdmiralBaxter, you were right... AGAIN!

Are the kit ones 1 piece or do they separate? They look OK in the picture but if your like me... OK isn't good enough lol
The kit part was printed as a single piece. It's totally accurate, just not smooth. So chroming it just makes it look worse. And yeah, after spending all this time & nearly $300 on this project, OK is NOT good enough!

If you are going to make them from scratch anyway why not just use aluminum strips like on the original? That way you give them a quick sand and they look great. I think they should have sheet aluminum at the hobby/hardware store.
