Toronto Prop Party Official Date - June 25th 2011

Re: Toronto Prop Party - Interest thread

OK I'm in depending on confirmed date and time. Lots of soccer tournaments this season.

Cheers,
Neil.

Same here. Checking to see if the date will work for us. Possibly myself and another person if we can attend.
Hoping so!

Re: Toronto Prop Party - Interest thread

I'm up to a possible 3-4 guests. Hard for them to confirm but I'll try to lock them in.

Re: Toronto Prop Party - Interest thread

Well, it appears we have a problem as the amount of confirmed people who are actually confirmed is less than 10

Also, does anyone expect this to go longer than 5pm?
Because D & B has the event booked from 11:30am - 5pm(later would be more $)

10 people confirmed in 2 days isn't bad. You'll get your 30 I have no doubt. Start canvasing members here who have posted in TO related threads in the past.

5pm seems fine to me as an end to the party. Those who want to stay can hop over to the games area or the bar area and do their thing. :)

10 confirmed since the start of this thread.
Everyone who has posted on this thread and the 'Toronto Prop Makers' thread have already been PM'd over 1 week ago.

I'm still waiting for several responses.

Re: Toronto Prop Party - Interest thread

Alright, I'll ask a few more of my friends. Lots of nerds in TO! We'll get 'er filled up.

Re: Toronto Prop Party - Interest thread

Responded. Not a ton of time to peruse the forums lately, so just saw the PM today.

Re: Toronto Prop Party - Interest thread

I should be able to make that date and if this is a definite go then I can post on the R2 web site and you would get a few more bodies and droids, I am sure.
You could also put the word out to the C3P0 and Batman web sites, thats how I heard about the last get together in TO.

Well, that's an added bonus, huh?

Unfortunately I'm not a member of those forums you mentioned and these days I'm too lazy to join more forums(too much to keep up with)
If anyone you know is a member, then feel free to spread the word.

At this point, the larger 'Show Room' will fit 146 people, so we could end up having a much bigger turn out.

If anyone wants to spread the word, that would be great.

I'd like to get Space Channel out there too for media coverage, I think that's pretty realistic. I'm not looking for accolades, just attention to the event. Maybe we can continue them yearly if we establish a community base.

Re: Prizes
Anyone who would like to donate an old misc sci-fi item, is more than welcome. A few of you have already offered to bring in items to give out as door prizes.

I think this is working out nicely.
Thanks Y'all.

Andrew

Indeed, Captain Action if you (or anyone else for that matter) are a member of those forums then certainly let them know about the prop party. I'd love to see some R2 units and C3PO there.

I'm lending Andrew a hand with some part of the party and if anyone wants to donate anything (prop related or even toys) as a door prize or possibly charity raffle prize then feel free to contact me and I can do some of the organizing for that.

Not just sci-fi! Any movie props!

I'll be donating something... Gotta think about it though.

So its definetly going to happen at D&B, right? I will post on the R2 site and a few others that I am on. Also you say $30 for entry/display and food?
I just want to make sure its a go.
Thanks

The event is definitely a 'go'. I was trying to get a rough head count to keep the admission cost as low a possible.

Admission cost will be no higher than $30, I promise.
Otherwise, it's hardly fair to charge convention prices.

We still have lot's of time.
We still have all of May to fine tune things.
I'm pushing my friends to book June 25th off.

At one point the total confirmed attendance was about 15, now it looks like we will easily draw 30+ people.

Believe me, I'm keeping a daily tally of everyone who's probably coming.

For those of you spreading the word on other forums and to your friends, please make an effort to give me a rough idea at some point how many people you may be bringing.

I'm hoping for 30 people minimum, but that may not be a problem it seems.

So drill $30 admission into your minds.

(I'd love to lower it)
but Dave & Busters has this mandatory buffet thing that's included.
At the time of booking, I was asked approximately how many people for food?
So I said 30.
I'm still confirming the food arrangements.
They say they don't allow outside food, but who the hell's going to check if you bring a few sandwiches. Food nazis at D & B?

If more than 30 people are eating, we'd just pay extra.

They're charging $2.69 p/person for unlimited pop, coffee, tea, etc.

I still need to clarify a few points.

I trust everyone who attends, we can apply the honour system.

We'll talk more.

Thanks to those who have updated the thread.

Anything...

I've got so much stuff from over the years, I'm sure I can find some cool items.

I don't expect people to give up really precious items. Don't go nuts on charity. Just small things, knick knacks.

Think that we may have lots of young kids attending, think of what they'd like.

I you want to take it really seriously we could set up 'tiers' of prizes.

3rd prize - this
2nd prize - this
1st prize - this

If you want. I'm open to whatever anyone's willing to offer, and we can treat the weight of the prize level, according to what's available.

Dr_Slurpee expressed interest in handling this aspect, so feel free to contact John as well, I don't mind.

If we're going to do the raffle I say put out all the prizes on a table and draw tickets until they're gone. First person picks first, second person picks second, etc until they're all gone. That's how we do contests on the site and it works well.

As for raffle prizes I will be donating two to get the ball rolling:

1. Hellboy Rasputin Spellbook - Value $150

2. Two ROTLA Bible Pages, one new, one aged - Value $30

Now someone donate something really nice that I can win! :D

I will be in Canada for a wedding of two Toronto police constables (one is my niece) in Missisaugua the next day. I may arrange my flight to get there two days earlier so I can attend. I cannot bring any of the guns, etc. as I would for a US prop party, but I might bring a power point of screen used prop guns and badges, etc. Just a thought. Anyway, let me see if the scheduling and flight booking will work out. Would LOVE to meet some of my fellow RPF'rs from my second home country.

Eltee, I hope you can make it, would be great to have some members from not just Toronto area come. A powerpoint of your props would be awesome!

Orange_Blend that's really cool of you to donate those items as prizes! I'll be donating some stuff myself as I go through and see what I have, most likely will be some parts for props or maybe a kit of some sort.

Prize Info
As mentioned I am going try and organize the prizes, and we're not entirely sure in what fashion we will give them out, but I wanted to say that any prize donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated and adds more fun to the event. Anyone wanting to donate something should contact me at namebrand.design (at) gmail (dot) com

I also will be donating some toys for door prizes for kids that come. If anyone else has any toys they'd like to donate for the same cause let me know too.
