BTW: if you do the shotgun, have it slung over your back and carry the gun and ice axe - like in the main artwork where she's standing there all bruised and battered, looking determined, and ready to go to war.

Are you planning to match colors on the pouch you added to the holster?

A note on the necklace.
The scale is all over the place throughout the game, sizing anywhere from the size of about a penny up to a fifty cent piece but most of the time somewhere in the nickle / quarter range.

It looks largest in the camera videos aboard ship, there is a decent shot of it when she is on deck with Roth where it's brought out she found it when she was 5.

Match colours...? Do you mean the grey and green? I did buy one of those utility pouches that you posted a link to, and when it shows up I'm going to try to colour it grey. My other pouch (the green one) I have since switched from what's in the picture. the new one isn't nylon, it's cotton... so I'm thinking I can fade/distress it some too.

I dunno... I suppose I could try some drybrushed acrylic to darken that mag pouch down some. I've been so focused on the rest of the outfit I'd kind of forgotten about that. It should be fairly easy to do.

Ok... so i went ahead and worked on colour matching the added mag pouch on my holster, as suggested above. Here's the result:

All in all it didn't turn out too badly... it looks LOADS better than it did when it was light tan!

I don't know what you do for a living, but with those skills you could easily be working in a costume department for feature films.

I also lengthened the slot in the holster which the mag pouch clips onto. Somehow before i didn't notice that the mag pouch was paralel to the wrong side of the holster, and sat too far to the back. [fixed!]

Hey Lara Fans...

Just a quick update on what I've been working on.

First, I have accurate ammo pouches! YAY!!!



Thanks SO much to Division 6 for your awesome tip on where to get that Large Utility Pouch! I've since bought 10 of them, so that there will be some available for the rest of the Laras Here.

I still need to distress it, but it's painted Grey and looking good.

But wait! There's more!! Where do you suppose Lara carries her Leatherbound journal and the lighter that she used for Flame Arrows? Feast ye eyes upon this:



They are a PERFECT fit in this pouch!

Also, I've been bugged by my less-than-accurate holster and waist belt. So i decided to try my hand at re-designing it:





I took a cheapo 12 dollar belt from WallyWorld and cut off the old waist belt to add this instead. i made new D Rings and keepers for the back, and even added the D Ring behind the holster for the Climbing Rope. Then I colour matched it to the holster. It's looking SOOO much better now!

Kristen - Mmf, I need to get lesson from you on distressing. Mine's still looking too clean and pristine. (Though my top definitely looks quite muddy water-strained now. ) I'm just floored by how amazing your costume looks. I'm definitely going to keep this thread bookmarked for when I push the envelope farther for Dragoncon (I'm going for a mid-range point in the game for my costume right now, so pre-shredded shirt.) I swear, I unintentionally am going in a linear timeline with this costume.

I am in LOVE with your holster! What kind of leather did you use? I might see about going back and doing more stitching on mine. The man who made mine only had time to put a "seam" line (not sure what it's called) in before the shoot. I also still need to add that outside pouch. But dang! I love how dirty yours looks. I'm picking up some fake dirt, blood, wire brush, and rocks today to see about scuffing my stuff up. And no lie, I think I might run over my costume with my car.

First off, i began with a well used WWII shoulder holster. So it already had 60+ years of wear and weathering on it at the start. But I *did* have to make the brand new WallyWorld belt match that ancient holster (which really wasn't that difficult).

Weathering--especially for film--isn't as natural and intuitive as one would think. Though it seems to make sense to rub things with rocks and wire to age them--as abrasion is usually how it happens in the real world--this doesn't usually translate onto film well; the camera can't see it. It's the same reason why we wear TONS more makeup when we're on the stage or on film as we do in real life... you ahve to exxagerate it to really get it to show up. Also, you're tricking the eye so to speak. Like with my holster... I had a look at the lighter; more worn spots and noted the colour of the leather there, then found some paint that was similar and sponged that onto the belt to trasfer that look of the old holster onto the belt and the magazine pouch.

weathering many times is so much more about paint than it is abrasion.
