Considering the whole "aliens" thing with Scientology, I don't think that'll be a problem.

Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is now Commanding Officer of Top Gun at Lemoore NAS in California. He relocates the base to MCAS Miramar after some sort of attack on Lemoore destroys the base. Now he must rally the troops at Top Gun currently flying F22-Raptors. He moves to become the CAG on board the USS Gerald Ford. Working with the former enemy Mother Russia must now come to the aid of the US and assist in the destruction of whomever is deemed the enemy!! And of course he now must command his hot headed son and Goose's son who is now a LCDR and Squadron Leader.

It needs an all-female cast this time. And preferably a director who didn't want the project.
Funny thing is, if this was happening in the late 90s then Michael Bay would have TOTALLY have gotten the job. But today, after another 20 years of making movies like this, with very good overall box office average, I doubt MB will even make the short list of possibilities.
