To Varnish Or Not To Varnish. That Is The Question?

Hello there. Just painted up my P1 bio but cant decide if i should put a coat of gloss or matte on it or just leave it? What do you think? Suggestions welcome. Sorry for the blurry pics.

I use satin finish on all my painted pieces. It seems to "blend" the colors, and adds a coat of protection. I think it's more personal preference as much as anything else.

You will have to coat it in something or the paint will be open to chipping and ruin all your hard work. Matt or gloss is personal choice, I will be using yaught varnish on mine, glossy but hard as nails, have used it on gauntlets and backpack and it breezed through my airbrush.

Just my humble opinion and loved the thread name... Lol..

I really cant decide. I have a P2 that i didn't do anything to and it looks pretty good without and seeing that im just displaying them on my wall im not to worried about the paint chipping. With this P1 because its so weathered im wondering if a coat will make it look to neat if you see what i mean? Hmmmmm...

Yeah didn't think about the dust problem lol  :p I wonder if there is a overcoat that isn't shiny. Some kind of matte? I'm lost lol.

Use a satin, or semi gloss. It's in between gloss and matte, and will give you a protective surface without the high gloss. It still has a little shine, but not bad. To me, it really doesn't make sense to coat a weathered surface with gloss, sort of defeats the purpose IMO.

Yeah coating mud and dirt really doesn't seem the way to go lol. Well i will maybe try a satin coat then. Never used one before so wasn't sure really. Cheers.  :)

Here's the thing.. Any kind of clear coat will mute the colors a bit.. It also reduces the depth and dimension of the weathering. To achieve weathering that still retains depth .. Coat between each layer .. Honestly.. If you are only displaying.. Leave it be.. You can still dust it with only the paint layer
