TNG Tricorder Evolution Thread

Well, after reading this whole thread (again!) you guys have got me motivated.

So, I just won a playmates tricorder on ebay, and I'm going to gut it, add electronics to it... the whole 9 yards.

Thanks for getting me ramped up for this.:thumbsup

If you can, take lots of pics during the process. In progress threads are always fun to watch. Goodluck!

Hi Guys,
The Under Water Tricorder was just about the same as the rest of them except that the lower door did not light up. The body of the Tricorder was filled with clear silicone up and around the electronics. We left just the space for the batteries open. We needed a stronger door than plexi, So we made one out of brass. That with more silicone sealed the Tricorder.

A few years ago I had a laptop stolen and apparently the picture was on it but I remember having a photo of a tricorder that showed the spring loaded door. I don't recall if it was a screen used piece or a replica.

There wasn't a photo of the insides but you could see a very thin brass tube and thin cable along one side of the tric that ran from the lower edge of the tric body and into the flip door.

I'll keep looking for the photo... :confused

Here's an MVI that I believe was made by playskool2000 (if so, it's the same one I obtained from him a couple years ago :cool). It has a spring-loaded door with a sliding catch. The spring literally swings the door open once the catch is released. However, the ratchet sound is completely digital:

A couple more pics of the proto-tric:

And for good measure, a few of an odd medical tric attachment. Anyone have more info on this one?

Thanks for the pics BSGBOOMER! :thumbsup

I haven't seen that episode in quite some time, but it mentions in the memory-alpha synopsis that Crusher uses the add-on to create a mental link between Geordi and the injured alien. Anyone remember if they mention in the episode what the add-on is called? Also, does anyone have clearer pics of the device attached to the alien's temple?

^ I def. see it. My first impression was a receipt feeder or the top of a small print-out calculator but your idea makes more sense.

I have learned however, to never put it past HMS Mike, he probably built the thing from scratch out of stone knives and bearskins. :lol
