TNG Tricorder Evolution Thread

Also this one was a rental prop:

It popped up in a season 1 episode of seaQuest, amongst other appearances.

Knight Rider and also used as a componant of the device that allowed Mr. Barkley brain interface with the Enterprise D's computer. I got to examine this prop when I visited Modern Props back in '85. It was pretty spiffy. Battleship cannons on the side for detail. It also has touch activated switches.

VERY nice Mike. Rick Sternbach actually includes a drawn version of the Mark IX in similar configuration in the DS9 Technical Manual if anybody is interested.

I am loving this this thread! I realy need to add a couple of tricorder to my collection. Right now all I have from Star Trek is my Sword of Kahless...lol

Add my name to those who love this thread.

I need to mod my playmates tricorder, and seeing what has been done already makes me confident that I can do it.

I have never taken any pics of my playmates mod. I should do that soon. There are a lot of people around here that have done it, so you have come to the right place!

Thanks everyone!
I am transfixed.

All I have is an MR & AA TOS, a Coyle 5, a lousy Playmates, and a dstines med scanner, so I'm sort of a tric novice.
Guess it's time for an eFX!

I have two quick questions to raise. In looking at youtube videos of the eFx/MR Mark IX tricorder and the HMS original tricorders, it appears the entire screen is backlit, in addition to the lit details (the running red lights at the tips of the bargraph, the yellow details, as well as the lit number at the top of the graphic).

Other trics only have lit details and the screen itself is not backlit.

Compare these:

and

to say, this one:

and

1. Is it possible that the eFx screen isn't backlit, and its just the yellow detail LEDs that are brightening the entire screen? and 2. Which is more accurate to the show?

I don't think that it is backlit, it seems more that the LEDs are really bright and they aren't masked from each other well. Also maybe the "screen" is more translucent so the bar on the yellow vertical line and the 001011110101 bar make it light up. I have my 2 stapeltons and a GMros tricorder to compare.

The screen is definitely not backlit, here's a pic of the screen of my screenused Mark IX:
