Is there any other way to shape the white mesh without a heat gun?

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo *Kits available* see post

Thanks jovonbeck, yes a heat gun is the preferred method for shaping the frames and mesh. They are both plastic so applying heat should soften either one. The only other thing I have tried so far is placing the plastic into boiling water - worked for me but I know others have said they can't get it to work. I can't give any feedback on ovens or microwaves though since I've never used them.

I do know that Lunaman shaped his like this:

"I heated each of the frames over a very low flame on my stovetop for 10 to 20 seconds until they became pliable, then molded them to the curve and position of the templates on the faceshell and held them there until they cooled and retained their new shape."

The key is to hold them in place until they fully cool to allow the plastic to set into it's new shape.

Frames all set up, messed up the left frame. Used fresh glue, and it leaked out and have a white botch as you can see in the pictures.
Love the look of this cant help but stare. Sadly might have to let it go in a week if my check doesnt come through to pay a bill.

wow man, some of these pictures I would swear it was the costume made the film. Nice face shells!

I shaped my frames today. After failing with the hair dryer technique, I found heating them over the stove to work pretty well. It was a slow process as I wasn't sure how much heat they could take. Quite a few burned fingers later they look pretty much perfect.

How high was the flame, how long did you keep it above the flame

Pretty much the lowest flame you can get. I just held it a few inches over and kept turning it for about 15-20 seconds, then held it against the faceshell till it had cooled.
It took a quite a while to get the shape right but just be patient.

The plastic does it get hot that it hurts or just enough to feel the warmth of it, if that makes sense

Yeah kind of. I singed my fingers a lot haha. You probably should wear gloves or use tongs or to be honest but I didn't.

All the info in the first post :)

I'm not currently selling finished sets at the moment, only kits. The kits are $135 USD + shipping and paypal fees.

Hey all, I didnt order ASM2 kit, but I did however get a universal face shell and lenses from his other thread. Just showing it off to show how easy it is for you to drill/glue put it together yourself!

Before bed, leaving it on mask to set

These are amazing. I'm getting a removable mask and I'm trying to figure out how I could do the Spider-Man kiss while still having the face shell. I've seen some suits without a face shell and it looks pretty sketchy sometimes.

The edges of the clear dome lenses aren't flush with the lens frame. This makes it difficult to glue it all together. Is it safe to apply the heat gun to the dome lenses to shape them?

You can, it's very easy to heat shape the domes. However that being said, I've never had any issue with attaching them to the frames myself. As per the instructions, the domes aren't supposed to sit completely under the frames. If they were flush all the way to the edges, then the lenses wouldn't sit flush properly against the shell.
