tim's mass effect armor progress

This all looks fantastic. A few years back my friend and I both made our bat suits out of craft foam, I did returns(its the one Im wearing in my avatar) and he did a awesome begins. I don't know how different this kind of foam is from the thiner foamies craft foam, but we had to back ours with vinyl to keep it from getting destroyed by heat, sweat and movemnt. Are you free handing the Halo pieces?

Tim - both the Mass Effect and Halo Reach armor are looking fantastic... but I especially like the Halo Reach.

Are you free-handing this all or are you using pep in any way (like for figuring out patterns)???

Im using parts of the pep to get the bigger pieces and figuring out the rest.

well I sorta finished my suit with the help of brandon mcclain on the helmet and me just using mark vi boots and hand plate I was able to make it to the release at 3 different locations last night one of which had over 500 people, I didn't have my camera on me but my sister managed to snap a few shots at home before I left hope you like,

Very Nice! That turned out great!

To answer the hot glue question asked above I order mine in bulk from Gluesticksdirect Home Page You can also find this company on Ebay. Avoid the "Economy" line if you plan to cast anything out of the glue. (like I do with my Guyver Armors) It's fine for just gluing things together but I tried casting with the "economy" formula and it tore my molds all to hell. (this is basically the same crap glue you will find in most stores) I now only buy the premium low-hi temp from them. It's about $30-40 more a case but the flow is much smoother, allows a longer molding time and most importantly it doesn't ruin my molds.

I really like the black undersuit too! Did you make it or is it an existing piece you found somewhere?! Amazing work as always Tim!

OK, I re read the entire thread but didn't find a definitive answer. Are you using Pep files to make your patterns?

Wow, this stuff is amazing. Well done!

I am curious about how you achieved some of that detail on the Halo Reach armor (I presume it's the stuff Noble 6 wears?). How DID you do that? Multiple layers? How do you connect them together? How do you thin out or modify different pieces? I'd appreciate any tips you could give me. : )

I'm also curious what stuff you used around your knees. The black stuff, not sure if it's more foam or a kind of padding, underneath the main layer, on top of the knee cap.

Once again, well done, sir!

would you be willing to share any patterns or reference you used to make this reach armor? it looks spectacular

(and link us to the 405th thread)

also, how did you get such angles on the armor, while keeping it smooth and for lack of a better word "hugging" to your body on the inside.
the chest and thighs particularly

first answer:

heres the sticky to the pep files which yes I used part of but heavily modified as it doesn't work the same for foam.
*The Official* Halo Reach Pepakura Files Thread

heres my thread on the 405th but it pretty much the same as this thread
Reach and mass effects, its been awhile for me

I purchased my under suit from scuba123.com

to achieved angles use a dremel along the side of one piece and just using hot glue to put together.

I also used other foam stuff which I got at a hobby store the are just the normal foamies that you are used too that come in .25 think and smaller.

you can use Plasti Dip spray which you can get at home depot next to the same Rustolum spray paint that you can used on the Plasti Dip after it dried.

ok I've been gone for awhile trying to finish my sisters armor just barley made it in time minus the helmets for us which I hope to have done by halloween but wanted to give you guys some pics from our adventure at anime banzai here in utah.
