Oh Frabjous Day! I await the unveiling (although hoping to obtain them secretly via the Black Market channels before mass production:love)
And I have been to Casa De ACME! I have seen the Oompas! They all run around wearing Aloha shirts drinking rum followed by Corona's on the job! You can't ask for a better boss!!!

i love the Pins
Panda is sculpting mine, then from there we want to make a 2 part moals that we can use to make more
i saw the Art Deco she made me a coupple days ago, it looks amazing so far
and i think she has the Hollow pin figured out now
as for the arow pin, we may make one for con, but look out Richard
i want one XP
as for my costume, now that i have the lining its almost done
im just waiting for Chad to send me some of that yarn for my cuffs
and my Kilt
then i can start on Battle Hatter
im still trying to figure out what i want to make the coat out of
i know im putting silk on it, but i dont know where to start
any one have any good ideas

ok, things are starting to fall into place for me and its coming close it the time where i shall have to construct a new hat
so someone out there who knows it (i know its on here somewhere, i just cant find it)
i need the measurements of the hat
height, the radius of the crown, that sort of thing
cause this one is gonna be perfect....well as perfect as any replica of this hat can be, you know
cause were all a little diferent XP
as for my progression, im almost done with the coat (i still need my yarn)
and i just started on a new vest
i made all the squares 1inch
i spent about 4 hours cutting those out, its gonna look amazing i can tell you that
otherwise ill kill myself

I'm gonna be starting my hat this week and was just about to ask for those measurements myself. Here's hoping someone has them to offer!

I don't think it is a matter of people not wanting to offer but scale and sizing. Your head could be twice as large or twice as smaller than mine so if I gave you measurements your hat could either look like a toy hat or fall down to your nose.
Your best bet is to use scales / proportions. Get a copy of JD as Mad Hatter (such as the very hi res one promo shot of him holding the rabbit or the very hi res detailed shot of his face close up....it has the hat and face in the image). Print this image on 11 x 17 portrait OR whatever you can do.
Set up a scale using your pictures to your actual face. Example measure the width of JDs head from temple to temple from your picture and measure your actual head width form temple to temple. So you would set up a scale "1 inch on JDs picture is equal to 1 1/2 inches of my actual head." You will use this scale for your calculations.
Take the following measurements:
- Total height from top of hat to bottom of JDs chin.
- Height of JDs face from brim to bottom of chin.
- Width of JDs face at temples, eyes, cheeks, and widest part (you don't have to measure all of this but it gives you more proportions to calculate)
- Height of hat from top of hat to front brim.
- Width of the hat from brim to brim.
Now take your measurements (with wig on).
- Circumference of your noggin just where the hat sits.
- Now measure all the parts of your head as well like you did on JDs picture. Be sure to add about 1 1/2 - 2 inches height of your head that goes into the hat.
Now start your calculations for the following hat measurments:
- Overall widths for the top hat: Top, middle, bottom (called the crown)
- Width of your brim (remember that it curls up on either side...I used 2 1/2 inch width on my brim some used 3 inches width. I based my width on the face measurements AND thumb thickness. My brim width is three JD thumb widths thick based upon the image of him just before he throws the hat.
- Height of the top hat.
- The crown of the hat will be based primarily off of the circumference of your noggin measured with the wig on. Proportionally scale the top of the top hat to the bottom both width and circumference.
Go back through this thread and find my original concept drawings and you will see what I mean. My hat came in four parts: (1) round top pieces, (2) top hat piece, (3) top of brim, and (4) bottom of brim.
Doing this proportional measurements will give you a hat that looks good on your head and not too large or too small. I have seen so many good hats out there but when on their makers heads look WAY TOOOOO BIG!! Now unless they set out to make it that way that is fine....I'm not bashing them or anyone else it just looks kind of funny to me.
Also you need to determine if you want to make the head hole oval shaped or a perfect circle. Oval shape makes it a little bit harder to make the hat because your measurements will be slightly skewed. A perfect circle is easier to work with.
I recommend getting some poster board and make a paper hat first as a template. When you put it together use velcro to hold the pieces together. Wear it with your wig and see what you like or hate. Adjust as needed. Use that poster board hat as your template for your final cut into whatever material you plan to use.
Hope that helps!!!!! Alot to digest but I guarantee you will have a better hat in the end!!!

If anyone still needs their clover ring, there are some inexpensive ones up on eBay right now. I just picked up one for myself and there are two left at a $10.95 buy it now price. Total cost was $11.56 with tax. Just do a search for clover pin cushion ring and they'll pop up. Many thanks to Connor (sorry I can't remember your username) for pointing one out to me.

My hat is far from 100% accurate, but I do them the old fashioned way, buckram and wire.

There were lots of awesome costumes there that night. I recognized the Red queen from the ren fair pics with Acme. I'll try to post some pics later.

Here's a pic of my turbin pin. I used waste canvas, drew out the shape and then embroidered. Since I make mostly the mini hat I used bigger than SA caviar beads and a smaller button for the center. I only do one side, but if I were to do the two sided i would make two embroideries first, then sandwich the between then, stitch them together.
the second pic is from the full size hat, but I did it the same way, just with the bigger button.
