Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

Velvet/velour, eh?

I mean, now that we KNOW how the darn thing was made, why can't anyone --you know -- make it that way? :lol

Surely you've never been to Singapore!

I spent three weeks in Singapore and EVERYTHING there was made of silk. You would figure the stuff coming from overseas would be 100% silk and to scale! :confused

I just don't understand that they market to the Western world yet their stuff is scaled to small Asian people!?:ninja

I think that ref pic. is in this thread UM.

And I agree 100%, there are some very cool costume peices I'd like to have (and even some coats, etc to wear otherwise), , but there is no way I'd ever fit into them. :(

Also. Cats love the Mad Hatter. They can't get enough of the ribbons. :lol *imagines myself downtown running from a bunch of cats*

Ooooooooooooooooooooooo! Lookie! Lookie! LOOKIE!!!!!!:love I wonder if FIDM would complain if someone showed up in Hatter gear???

Wonderland in Los Angeles

(NEW YORK) The fashion collaborations sparked by the recent Tim Burton remake of Alice in Wonderland were almost too numerous to count—so if you had trouble keeping track, allow FIDM to help. The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising will kick off a three-part exhibition inspired by the classic on May 27, corresponding to the film’s June 1 DVD and Blu-ray debut. Part one? Original costumes from the film designed by costumer extraordinaire Colleen Atwood, who already has two Academy Awards for Costume Design under her belt. Expect Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter “fighter” look, several of Mia Wasikowska’s Alice dresses and the stunning Red Queen dress pictured, worn by Helena Bonham Carter. Sketches, hats, and shoes will also be on display.

The second part of the exhibition, called the “Edgier Side of Alice,” will deal with all those aforementioned collaborations, with everyone’s from Sue Wong’s to Tom Binns’ to even Avril Lavigne’s take on Alice. Finally, FIDM grads themselves will have the chance to get inspired by Alice, and their creations (made under the supervision of FIDM fashion mentor and instructor Nick Verreos) will make up the third part of the exhibition. The exhibition is open to the public and runs until September 30, 2010.

:lol :p ;)

No, it was for you!!! :D

Oh! After I went to the bloody red dentist, I found some stuff. :D (Aside from two cavities. :lol )

Wood spools, total cost as of now, about $8. (I bought a bag to many. :lol) :

I didn't look for chain yet or anything. And I have like 8 left over incase I loose a few.

I also got some ribbon :

I still need like 2 more colors, but I'd like to find some fancy pants ones that have a cool design on them.

And then last of all, I found these pants at Goodwill. They're the strangest pair of pants I've ever seen, so I knew I had to have them. In person, you can't hardly see the blue stripes. :

Thoughts?

I found some chain at Joannes for cheap. 7 yards for 7 dollars. Yeah, it's aluminum and not 100% accurate but it so far has held up to wearing all 24 spools. Wore it to the bar coupla weeks ago and not one fell off.
The stuff I got came in a spool. :love Used up almost the entire roll minus a foot or two which I plan to keep in the pocket in case I have an incident and it does get damaged. Though if I plan to goto a party I MAY attempt to solder or glue each link so it is a little stronger.

Ok so what news of Tie Fabric? Last I heard several people were working on stuff and now I'm curious as to progress and such.
I'm actively working on it...
Trying to tweak it to look it as SA as possible (well, from the references provided so far:))

How much chain did you guys use for the spools? Right now I'm thinking I need about 175 inches. (I relise evryone is diffrent, but to have a good idea if I'm going to need extra, etc.) That's almost 5 yards. Going around me twice (62 inches X 2) plus the chain that hangs on hip. One thing I didn't add in was the length of the toggle clasps, or connector rings in the back.

I used about six feet for my spools (three feet on each side) and 70" for the chain that runs across my back... however, I didn't run it through twice. I'm also thinking I might change out my chain to something with smaller links and a more 'aged' look. I bought my spool chain at Lowe's and it's kinda heavy on my shoulder once it's all together and that doesn't bode well for my bad neck. LOL

Also, question... has anyone on the forum used this tutorial for making the hat?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKcbk6xnSz4

I was just curious to see any other final results before I try it myself.

ETA - does anyone have some photos of the dress the Hatter makes for Alice when he sticks her in the teapot? I'm going to be working on one for my daughter and need some reference pics!
