Tiger & Bunny Suit (armored ver. WIP)

Oh man! Thanks Dude! I've been trying to figure this out all week. But Actually, I couldn't get your way to work, but I did find another.

This site work for me!:
MikuMikuDance Blender - OOgtech.org

This is the straight up mmd model, so I haven't edited it in any way.

Is there anyone who can edit this and unfold into pepakura?

Hey guys,

I've been really excited about starting this project so I put a lot of time in and finally took apart the model from earlier.

I haven't edited the proportions to match my body yet, so this is just the default. Here's What it looks like now:

Here's some more links to the model for anyone that can unfold these and bring them into pepakura designer.

Yeah no problem. I know a lot of people (like me) have trouble finding patterns, so I try to make things easy so everyone can build and have fun :D

Hey guys,
Sorry I've been away for so long, been busy with school projects. I did finally finish unfolding Wild Tiger's Helmet in pepakura though, yeah, thought that'd make some of you guys happy. I did not alter the dimensions of the helmet so you guys are gonna have to measure it to the size of your head. Also, the helmet is separated into parts so when changing the size, make sure you change the whole scale so that it resizes everything, and use the width of your head for measurement because the model is pulled apart in pieces along the 'Z' & 'Y' axis.

Here's the pdo:
WildTiger_Helmetfacepieces.pdo

This was my first time unfolding something in pepakura, but I tried to organize the pieces as best I could to make it an easy build. Love to hear some feedback, Thanks guys :D

looking good.. nice that you do your own moddeling aswell !

was thinking this when I saw the title:

haha but the anime robots are a lot better ofc :p

Thank you for the file! I'm really happy with it!

Some questions:

- I see a level surface inside the helmet, does that need to stay ther upon assembly?
- Can this be conveted to face opem?
- There is a small inder piece for the mouth, where soes that go on face open (if possible)?

"- I see a level surface inside the helmet, does that need to stay ther upon assembly?"
Do you mean in the back of the head? If so, then yes. I used that level surface to keep the shape of the helmet for when I applied resin to it, but you can take it out if you want. I eventually took it out because it was in the way of my head.

"- Can this be conveted to face opem?"
I'm not sure what you mean. Did you want to convert the helmet file to the face_open file? If yes, then I'm not sure. Pepakura can only save files as .pdo as far as I know, but I guess you could convert it. If you brought the file back into a 3D program, the unfold data disappear I think, not sure.

"- There is a small inder piece for the mouth, where soes that go on face open (if possible)?"
The small piece for the mouth connects to the upper half of the helmet, and when the helmet opens, that mouth piece is supposed to slide up into the mask so that you can see his whole face when the mask goes up.

I sent you my email. Can't wait to see what your Bunny looks like. And thanks for offering to help me unfold, it is very much appreciated :)

Hey Guys, I'm Back! And this time I finished coating the helmet in resin! Sorry it took so long, I'm falling behind in some of my classes so I've been playing catch-up and I have to make several versions of this before I got the size right. I'll be starting on pepping the rest suit now, running out of time though, I have about a month to do this, and I also have another costume to do.

Awesome stuff! Will you be making his head spike out of transparent green sheeting, or painting it directly onto your helmet?

As a long time cosplayer and a huge Tiger and Bunny fan, this thread gives me hope. I stumbled on it while researching. I've made alot of things in my cosplay career, and a mech suit is the next step for me. I have No idea where to being, and after reading this thread, I see the steps, but would honestly like some help. I don't understand the programs. I'd really like to make Bunny's suit. I know your all busy with school and your own projects, but could anyone help a girl out?

I'll be remaking the spike out of a thin piece transparent green plastic, maybe out of school folders. either that or I could also vacuum form it, but I think it's cheaper to go with the sheeting.

Sure I can help a little bit. I'm pretty new at this myself, started work with this stuff in February, but it's pretty easy to learn once you play with it, also I watch a lot of youtube videos when I get stuck. Are you willing to work with 3D models or would you prefer just building from instructions? I have the 3D model for bunny's suit, but I have yet to unfold it in Pepakura yet. There is another user who has the barnaby file he made himself, but I'd have to ask him for it.

It is definitely more time consuming when you have to make your own 3D model, but sometimes that's what has to be done. Luckily for me I found the 3D models so all I had to do was bring the models into Pepakura and unfold.

What would you like help with?

There's not real rush, i dont plan on starting the costume till fall at the earliest. As far as completion, not till Otakon, mid july 2013. So I have time, I know your busy and I really appreciate you taking the time to help. I've had a few people turn me away because it was a' trade secret', using pepakura and all that.

I don't have access to, or much knowledge of 3-d modeling software, nor do I know how to use Pepakura, though I do know sorta what Pepakura does. I'm good with building though, Ive made many many cosplay costumes to date.

Umm, i guess my point is, I'd be more comfortable building from instruction. If you'd be willing to help me get to that point. I understand its an awful lot to ask a stranger. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

'Trade Secret'? Psssh, that's bull. The reason they probably don't want to help you is because they're busy, lazy, or would rather get paid. The program is actually really easy to learn. I went on YouTube for some tutorials. Here's Some good ones:

This guy is very helpful and he has many video tutorials on paper and foam armor construction. Watch his featured playlist on Using Pepakura for Costume Building.
TheHeroTutorials - YouTube

This one I used when learning how to unfold my own 3D models.
Pepakura Unfolding Tutorial Part 1 - YouTube

If you want to learn a little bit of 3D software, Blender is free, and I believe Maya is free if you register as a student. There are also many youtube videos for those.

Do you have the registered version Pepakura Designer? You will need that if you want to edit a model in pepakura and save your changes(ex: unfolding, changing size).

There are a bunch of free pepakura files (.pdo) scattered around the net, mostly on sites like this one or the 405th.com, if you want to build something that is popular. You said you wanted to make a Barnaby costume so that's going to be more difficult to come by. I have the 3D model for that character, but I haven't put it into pepakura yet.

If you want, I can post it up, but you would have to separate it into several pieces in a 3D program and then unfold them in Pepakura (look at my previous posts if you're not sure what I mean).

@CrimsonAether - Rather then quote all that, I'm going to write like this~

I know your right, they didn't want to be bothered with helping me out due to time/lazy/money/ect. Which, I guess i can understand, But most of them were rather nasty about how they went about telling me no.

Edit: I've watched TheHeroTutorials, both the paper and resin tutorial and the foam versions from Pepakura files. These are my thoughts both methods, that can be applied to both Tiger and Bunny's suits.

The white and colored parts of their suits, (green and pink respectively), I'd opt for the paper w/resin and fiberglass method. These being large, stiff areas of the suit, including the large black pieces that make up tiger's arms. Now, I also plan on having a black spandex (or some stretchy black material) as the base of my suit. The black areas on the torso, back of the legs, these high motion, lots of bending areas, I'd opt for the foam method, allowing easy movement with little to no wear and tear. I had noted in his foam versions of the tutorials, that the method didn't come 'clean' as nicely as the resin and paper version. There were small gaps and stuff, which, wouldn't be seen in the black areas w/ a black spandex suit underneath. These are my thoughts, a hybrid of the two processes, let me know what you think.
---

I do not have any 3-d Modeling program nor a registered version of Pekakura yet. The modeling is a bit beyond me technical wise. I'd have to take a class to be able to model those kind of complicated things. If you'd be willing to share your model of Barnaby's suit (I still prefer to call him Bunny) i'd be grateful. I watched the unfolding tutorial you linked as well, and can totally manage that. Just working with the 3D model itself is a bit beyond my skill level, but hopefully I can manage to take it apart into suitable pieces with that blender program. It's my first making something of the Mecha variety, but I'm so excited to try something new and learn. It's part of the enjoyment of cosplaying.

Slightly off topic, but still on the topic of T&B, originally i'd wanted to make Tiger's suit, but a look at his build, wider chest, more manly, I decided Bunny would be a better shape for a smaller person like me. So I really look forward to seeing Tiger done. Do it for me who is much to small to cosplay him!
