There is a current online auction for one of these (liveauctioneers) where it briefly mentions the construction method.

This signature two-piece android mask is constructed of clear molded plastic with the interior covered in silver leaf.

Your proposed method of using clear plastic and spray painting the inside should be a good simulation.

This is really nice and suitably cold and creepy!

I only saw the film recently and I was surprised at how trippy and kind of "arthouse" (for want of a better word) it was. A far cry from what Georgy is churning out these days!
