Hey guys.. having an issue with the bondo... Don Roberts or Izabel please help if you can....

I went to lay down some bondo on a spare piece of foam rubber and it hardened but not all the way.. I was still able to bend it.. which is weird because it should be hard and dry... sandable ya know? SO I am confused.. perhaps my bondo has gone bad? Worse is I was able to peel it right off the foam.

I know Don has used this on his suits... perhaps I am using the wrong stuff? I am using this...

Maybe your hardener is gone bad or its too cold to set properly.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Helmet Pics!!! - 3/13

Thought maybe the hardener has gone bad.. but it's deff warm enough. I live in Florida and it's been in high 70's low 80's

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Helmet Pics!!! - 3/13

I know what you mean. I had some 2 year old bondo that went through two summers of 100+weather. I Didn't have to replace it just buy new hardener. Cali weather has sucked though lately. Hope to see an update soon. Keep Building!....

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Helmet Pics!!! - 3/13

Thanks.. the hardener must have gone bad. I am considering laying down some cloth and resining the faceplate and edges of helmet where it meets to help keep the shape when the faaceplate is lifted ontop head.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Helmet Pics!!! - 3/13

I think I am going to mix up a batch of fiberglass resin with some saw dust mixed in.. brush that into the faceplate and inner opening of the helmet to help keep it's shape. Or should I just use some sort of thin cloth? I am trying to avoid fiberglass cloth as it's so damn messy.

Seriously considering giving up the whole costume building thing.. aka Iron Man. I just don't have the room for all this **** in my house all the time.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Helmet Pics!!! - 3/13

what about fibreglass tissue ?not quite as messy rq a few lay ups though
or fibreglass bridger just apply with a filler spreader

I know what ya mean about not havin' enough room. I can't even start a build yet cause I live in a apt. bldg. And people live right above th' basement so usin' resin or bond is out of th' question period. So if ya can do it so ya don't regret later on. It's too bad you've done alot ta just have it go by th' wayside whatever ya decide good luck bra.

You can't give up! I know what you mean about the mess, the only way I'm able to cope with it is by being really good about cleaning up after myself after each small stage of a project. It also makes your build less stressful, I've noticed that the messier your workspace the more gremlins you get hiding tools you need.

Hang in there GJ,your work is so beautiful!
Imagine halloween and wearing your masterpiece!!

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Helmet Pics!!! - 3/13

Hang in there buddy. You can do it.
You will find the room if you really want to do this.
I've been working in the garden in a 2 metre area and everything is stored on a 1 x 0.5 metre worktop, so it is definitely possible to do man.
You inspire many people and are a legend to many.

Keep your head up bro!
