This Y Wing pic is confusing me - What's going on here?

Yep that's where I got it (you could just ask), that's not a model used in ANH? Hmm the picture I had was labeled Gold 1, never really looked at it closely.

I didn't think to ask, I was writing a post and just occurred to me in the moment. I had asked about this picture on another Y thread (I don't remember which one) and the response I got was this was a commercial kit (I don't remember which kit they said it was). This pic is on the Modler's and Magic Minatures website misidentified as Gold Leader:

Hmmm Probably where I got it. There really needs to be a chart somewhere like a field guide to identify all these "birds".

True that. I was originally looking for something in that vain several weeks ago when I found this forum, I've kind of been creating my own collection of pics and sorting them by model to create something similar.

So to clear things up on the left is Gold 3 and the right is Gold 5 (triangles) correct?

Correct sir. That's the MOM tour Y on the left, and triangles on the right. Now that I look at that pic again, I can see that triangles (Gold 5) does not have a droid socket where there should be one in that pic too. We know that MOM Y did not have the droid slot either from the pics of the table full of models, and the MOM Y was refurbished for ESB which is probably when it got its silver/blue/red droid as well as its nose canons.

BTW, also notice the Red 6 pyro and Red Leader pyro (with a fresh paintjob) in the back.

I considered that when I posted the pic, but I consulted the pic below to make sure which canon was the red one visible. Red 6's top red canon is the port canon, just like the one in the back. The one on the model that people say may be Red 10 pyro (I tend to agree with that) is the starboard top canon.

BTW, the two models in front are Red Leader hero and Red 12 (which looks like it's in the process of being painted).

I agree with Blue 5 on that one. The one on the right (closer) has an orange/yellow cockpit frame - only Red 4 and 12 are known to have that. But the wing stripes and yellow marks on the laser cannons look like they might be Red 12.

The farthest one on the right (the one where you can't see the fuselage) had the Red Cannon on the upper wing (as Blue 5 pointed out), leading me to believe that it is the one tentatively identified as "Red 10" (See "Differences between the X-Wing Heros and Pyros" thread). The well-photographed Red 6 had the red cannon on the lower right wing).

This is why it is critical that we check to make sure which pictures are reversed, and correct them. I believe the picture above is not reversed.

But this is by no means 100% verified - it is only our best guess based on the limited information and pictures available, thanks to the generous folks here who have contributed over the years.

Yes, the one on the back left is apparently one of the few of the Red Leader Pyro being painted. Note the "green" droid on the Red Leader hero closest to the camera - never saw that droid anywhere else again!

Pretty sure red 6 has 1 lower right red cannon and red 10 has the upper left red cannon and that unpainted yellow canopy x-wing is red 12.

Yeah, I was going to point out the same thing for Red 12. I only have one pic of Red 4 (aside from on the table), but the yellow canon marks do not seem to match up with the model behind Red Leader.

Holy crap, I think you're right on the red canons. Have we misidentified this model as Red 6 for all these years? Wow. I've only got two pics of Red 6 that show the top port canon and it's not red in either one. I guess I was combining those two models in my head for Red 6.

Great, I turned an X-Wing thread into a discussion of Y-Wings, and now I've turned a Y-Wing thread into a discussion of X-Wings. I guess my work here is done.

Guys, I can assure you this is 100% Red 4 in this pic. You can even notice the R4 unit (R2 unit for Red 12).

Ummmm....I see an R2 unit, not an R4. It's hard to see because the droid is unpainted and blends in with the upper starboard engine behind it, but when I zoom in I can see the round dome. But if the droid is removable, it could have been swapped out for an R4 later. But the markings on the canons match Red 12 better than Red 4 (granted I only have 2 pics of Red 12 and one of Red 4 to reference).

Looks like a round R2 to me too and on the larger pic you can see the other gun has the same yellow marking matching Red 12, which Red 4 lacks. Is there something else we're missing?

Found this this nugget today 5757 on Vimeo unfortunately the only models in it are the 2 Y-wing heros at the 3 minute mark, though interesting to see they had r2 units in their droid slots. Be nice if Mr berry dug out some more footage.

Nice, I found that about 5 months ago while looking for information and pics, but I neglected to save the link. I didn't pause it when the 3 minute mark went by, so I didn't stop to see which one was blue/gray (Gold 2) and which was TIE Killer (Gold Leader). But if they were both being assembled at the same time, why is TIE Killer on the table of models and not blue/gray?

All four y-wings are there, the cockpit of Gold 2 is behind he tie-fighter, as it had already been destroyed. (I guess the line between hero/pyro is kind of blurred for Y-wing's) Can see it better here, or maybe they just switched cockpits between 3 chasis.

Or, it is being built. The video had the two fuselages assembled on stands, but there were no cockpits. Perhaps blue/gray (Gold 2) cockpit has yet to joined with the fuselage in this pic, while TIE Killer (Gold Leader) was already finished at this point? Red 3 hero and Red 6 pyro are also absent. Built before the rest and unavailable for the photo op, or built afterwards? It does make sense for blue/gray (Gold 2) to have been the ship given to Alan Ladd Jr, so that TIE Killer can find its way into a private collection. Otherwise it was TIE Killer that Alan Ladd Jr received and then at some point sold it or gave it away.
