This Y Wing pic is confusing me - What's going on here?

Our first release will be a uber Red Y wing. All parts match the reference photos. This is not just a dressed up MR version. The entire Y has been remastered.

Steve, do the engines (I mean the whole airfix saturn V stages) cast with the body or are they separate parts ? I would love to build the red Y-wing, but I would like to use the actual kitparts for the engines !

I can offer the engine bits and pieces separate if folks want to use thier own Saturn V engines. The new kit actualy molds the saturn engine parts as they appear in the airfix kit two hollow halves... they will just have the details already molded in....

Are you planning to release accurate upgrade parts and a console for MR Y-wing?

This is great news! Can´t wait to order a kit of the MoM Y! I assume it will come with the parts it had originally (back end, canopy guns, ...) not the differing replacements?

Having been on the team that made the MR y I can tell you that it would be difficult to upgrade because of the material its made from. Polystone does not lend itself to be dremeled and im not sure you could hog it out enough for the accurate cockpit... however if ive got the molds i will make parts that folks want.. when you see the kit just shoot me a email of th eparts you want and we can work something out if you dont want the entire kit.

kh39, we will replicate the mom tour Y wing part for part based upon reference photos we have.. will include period parts and add on parts to match the tour model.

ILMwannabe, in your research which Y wing is the MOM tour Y wing?

I believe the MOM tour Y-Wing is the one with the browish/green/earth colored and yellow stripes on the engines (Fine Molds calls it "Gold 3" in their painting & decal instructions for their 1/72 kit). It is now very, very weathered and has a single white stripe along both sides of the forward section, as well as two thin stripes on top of the cockpit.

I saw that model myself in Washington DC and in Brookyn and I photographed it on film, but from a distance (no closeups). It's probably the most viewed and photographed of the original surviving Y-Wings.

There seems to be evidence that it was a surviving Pyro from ANH which was modified and used at the end of ESB (flying in front of the Medical Frigate - check it out - the markings seem to match). However, a dark smear was added to the top of the left engine sometime after that, as well as additional weathering. It does not have the usual pair of "U-shaped" bent tubes on the back.

It is featured in the book "from Star Wars to Indiana Jones . . ." (2-page wide picture). If you want, I can send you my pictures . . .

What makes you think the MoM Y is a pyro? I don´t think so... It looks just as well made as the other heros, and there´s some pics which show it with the same parts as the other heros which now differ, even one more part on top of the original Tyrell engine part on the back. It´s got several mounting points, had lighting... Or were the ANH pyros built equally well?

Great Steve, actually Ive been keeping my saturn V stages and Leggs that Lee gave me almost 4 years ago to build an Y, but I dont have the balls to fully ID the fuselage and if you're offering an accurate Red Y, why reinvent the wheel :)

Steve, that's great!BTW,if you can contact the owner of the Tie killerY,can you ask him what the color is like?
When I saw it in person,it looked pure white to me,but some people who never saw doesn't beleive me.lol
Maybe it looked pure white because of the fluorescent lights though.

Daniel,I don't think the MOM Y-wing was used as a pyro eigher, but I can understand why he thinks so.
The panel lines on the cockpit and the raised panels are quite identcal to pyro models.
And When I saw the accual model in person,I thought the fuselage was wonky. It looked like cast to me.
Please look at the 8rad on the neck as an example.

That could be from either the hot studio lights warping the 8 rad part or a cast part. even the red y had some cast parts on it.

Id like to see the wonkiness of the fuselage.
never mind i found the pics, and from what i can see of it, it isnt a pyro, on one pic of the cockpit you can see how they put it together as it is starting to pull apart.
At the rear of the engines you can see the small tabs, there are sink holes, that you will find on injected plastic parts.

Ok,I'm not saying the MOMY was a pyro.I just thought the detal was idencal to the pyro. The fuselage looks clean on the any pics I have.
TBH,I didn't have any idea of that they might had used the pyro casting when I saw it in person.,but it was rough looking.
And I think some of the hero cockpits were made out of castings as well as the pyro model. You can see the same crack on each heroY in red circles

Another interesting thing about this 'Gold 3' is the 'snaking' noodle-like pipework on the back. It's unique to this Y.
