That's another thing that, in the modern world, is kind of going away. When I walk away from my car, it automatically locks behind me.
It will always matter to me. My history with saying it won't get stolen and then it does or "It auto locks" and for whatever reason doesn't. Wow, google spell check just offered doesnt without the '.

I'm tired of and have been tired of the "play the franchise theme slowly on piano to tickle the nostalgia bones" at the end of every trailer. Jurassic World is the latest offender.

On Eureka, they had a scene where the dad and daughter are having an emotional talk and the music is soooo exaggerated. Both of them stop talking and look up. The dad says (to the computerized smart house) Sara, what are you doing? And the house explains that it seemed the appropriate sound track for the moment. Both dad and daughter say "Don't".

Thou shalt not create a machine in the likeness of a human mind !

On episode 12 or so, the house disintigrates the pizza guy. No one mentions him ever again. It is my only gripe so far on this show. Weird, but controlled, and I am opining from where I am at episode 14, so not a full blown review of the series. It still has time to go sideways.

goes hand in hand with quivering lip emotional men who need to talk about their feelings on camera ! Old school Heroes they are not !!
Yes no thanks, A look tells all the emotion

I loved that series so much.

it's Eureka random disintegrations seem to be standard. :) I do agree it was not in character, should have gotten tazered or cryo frozen.

It's come to the point that I actively start rooting for those characters to die. One example that comes to mind is Tom Cruise's son in War of the Worlds.
So true. His actions just made no sense, even for a teen boy (a subset of human who rarely makes sane thoughts, and girls that age ARE close behind, though women never wanna admit that ALL teens are freaking dumbasses).

I was. Testimonial right here. I was a severe dumbass and only by multiple miracles survived the process.

Another thing I'm tired of is 50's-60's-70's-80's-90's-whatever cheap b-movie quality bs stories in modern expensive a-movies. It's insane the new expensive stuff is at the mentally inhibited quality of crap cheap slock. A de-evoliution of the quality of stories.

I just now see it. All the colorful shirts with gold trim. The jackboots. Replicators that can create anything you want, in quantity. The ability to travel at incredible speeds. The slapping fights. People dying horrible deaths when a severe talking to would have been good enough. Severe bipolar disorder nearly every episode. Half of those, that are present, die but the episode ends with a joke and a sly smile ...... Kirk is really Krampus.

IMO it's just remarkable how bad modern Hollywood is about writing.

They put up with bad writing in a way that they would never tolerate from the makeup, or the set builders, or the lighting crews, or anybody else.

I'm not even blaming the writers. The problem is usually down to producers. Nobody's writing will be very good if the boss doesn't give them adequate time and doesn't have a coherent idea of what they want.

All the recorded history of film and TV at their disposal and they cannot get basic details right about the recent past. Happy Days did this and that 70's show did it too! And of course various films. How do you mess this up so badly??

I find myself doing exactly what my parents did watching some of it: "No one said that then!" "They didn't have those there!" " That's not how that worked!"

Sigh

I think it's forgivable in cases like 'Happy Days' or '70s Show.' Those shows weren't made for the people who remember the previous eras, they were made for the teenagers watching at the time they aired.

The goofs are not so forgivable when they screw up basic stuff in more serious shows. Or shows that are aimed at the older viewers who would spot the goof.

I watched the hell out of the first few seasons of Happy Days. The "nostalgia for something I never experienced myself" thing nabbed me. The 50s! Some long ago age! Tell me about it, Mom!

Now, I think: the setting was less than 20 years before! Today I wear shirts older than that!
