Yeah, let's just stop watching screens in general !

Hey now, I did the going outside thing. It was a few days ago, yes, but I did go. Then it snowed and now we watch the screens.Yeah, let's just stop watching screens in general !
Every genre has a recipe. Follow the recipe my friend, follow the recipeHorror scenarios, car chases, fight scenes, million-dollar heists . . . these things DON'T normally happen in real life. It's hard to portray a bunch of people behaving normally and ending up in those situations.
Hence, the script writers start having people doing unrealistic things.
It's much easier for writers to add extra stupidity to a scene than brains. Stupidity is more common. It's easier to write. It's easier for viewers to follow. It creates more opportunities for laughs.
Yeah the nutty thing of tiny unpowered girls taking out big guys or taking a hit from the same without any problem. I did remember it referred as Buffy-fu.How about 110lb women taking down 350lb 6'7" Russian baddies by doing the black widow climb on ! Blood splattered on to the camera lense from our POV and 5 55 phone numbers !
Just watched the ultimate cringe ride, Mall Cop 2, but in the fight sequences they always go back to reality and the 125 pound flying sidekick hits the 245 six foot female mall cop and the 125 drops like she tried her kick on a cement wall. Honestly, this is why cheerleading gymnastics function in the real world. Little springy thing mount jumps off the Base and flies into the sky. The Base girl/guy is not even somewhat moved by this action, like a friggin boulder.Yeah the nutty thing of tiny unpowered girls taking out big guys or taking a hit from the same without any problem. I did remember it referred as Buffy-fu.
There are some outstanding female fighters but this stuff gives a false idea of what's possible. In real life though, I would encourage any woman if attacked to fight as hard as she can ! In the real world , men should not hit women !Yeah the nutty thing of tiny unpowered girls taking out big guys or taking a hit from the same without any problem. I did remember it referred as Buffy-fu.
Buffy had an excuse because she was magical. I might be able to buy it for a highly trained woman with martial arts experience. That's not what we see most often though.Yeah the nutty thing of tiny unpowered girls taking out big guys or taking a hit from the same without any problem. I did remember it referred as Buffy-fu.
Now, with that said, real wotld fighting is about damage not movement.... so, the little 125 with focused attacks is still hitting the baddy with serious blows but just don't try equally exchanging punches between the two, it won't work. Somehow people memorialize Bruce Lee launching a much larger person BUT completely fail to see that Bruce was punching/kicking upward and not trying mass versus mass. He firmly based himself and then used power AND speed to punch up and continue pushing through to get the big guy to impressively move through the air. He lifted them, bodily. It was just too fast to see he did so. If he just wanted them to go down, he wouldn't move them at all. He would push his strike INTO the unmoving mass, just like a bullet. Highest damage to the smallest location without committing to holding a position afterward. Certainly not impressive to anyone watching but to the person getting hit, it is just fall down time like getting hit by a flying rock the size of a baseball.
If the big guy is trained just as well and is just as fit as the little guy, there is no real doubt about the outcome.

To be honest, there is a zone that has not been trespassed by many. I have no idea about laws against displaying certain types of violence as practically everything has been done. However, there is the exception and there is the expected. I speak of a social norm, an expectation that even when we are angry enough to fight we stay away from specific types of injuries. And it seems those things are also expected to not be shown regularly on film. I saw someone mention above that throat shots would be expected from a small combatant. That comment used to be the rare exception, only taught in the military, as what you do to an enemy you want dead. Throat shots, eye injuries and/removal, knee shots and actually anything neck at all, spiked shoes, steel toe, sap gloves, plated elbow strikes, kidney and liver shots, debri to the face, these things are what saves a small combatant (if no weapon is present) but HELL NO would you want that repeated regularly in front of the sheep laden public. I can complain about impossible things in movies but now that I think on it, I really don't want to see the real equalizers shown all the time. Bring on the tiny ninja, I miss you already.
Yeah I don't count superhero characters, magic characters, or characters that have a reason. That's why I think Black Widow gets a pass.
goes hand in hand with quivering lip emotional men who need to talk about their feelings on camera ! Old school Heroes they are not !!Buffy had an excuse because she was magical. I might be able to buy it for a highly trained woman with martial arts experience. That's not what we see most often though.
My wife says stuff like "So Black Widow .....kwerjlwafpwioreupoijf;lakj.....wer;poiuoqoirlsfkj;wserkj." And I say, "What?" She says, "Well, all she does is ........vvvvvddddffffewwwwwwwwsssssflkj;wlkjerlkjflkja." And I say, "I am totally not following this, what are you talking about." I fear for my life if I explained to her that once she has set me on the path of picturing what Scarlett is doing in this movie, I am no longer listening. Other guys say stuff like, "In that one scene, where she grabs that guy by the neck and then finishes the phone call..." and I think to myself 'there was a guy in that scene?' If Scarlett ever did a fourth wall break and asked a question directly to the camera, I would answer, hands down, no question, I would just respond, and then die. I would surely die and my sad wife would go to jail. After some consideration, I believe this is what my wife was saying about what Scarlett's real purpose in this movie was (insert any name of any movie, at all, even ones she is not in).I mean, yeah, that's why all martial arts are inherently compromised. They are all imperfect measures of real-world self-defense ability. True hand-to-hand fighting in the life-threatening sense has no rules. Anybody who knows what they are doing in that situation will go right to moves that cause permanent or fatal damage.
There are perpetual debates about which martial arts star is the best. It's not really answerable. Best at what? Best at taking permanent damage and continuing to fight long enough to hurt his opponent even worse? Best at trading skilled hits to the head/body in a judged contest type of format? Best at yellling "WHOOAAA!" and holding their fingers stiff as boards?
Black Widow gets a pass because it's ScarJo in a tight leather outfit.
Karate works, only if the opponents are doing Karate ! Anyhow, we're talking movies and mostly not very good ones ! How about in movies where they never lock their cars ...My wife says stuff like "So Black Widow .....kwerjlwafpwioreupoijf;lakj.....wer;poiuoqoirlsfkj;wserkj." And I say, "What?" I would absolutely love it if at least once some guy stops and looks at the sidekick and says, "I don't remember if I locked the car."Karate works, only if the opponents are doing Karate ! Anyhow, we're talking movies and mostly not very good ones ! How about in movies where they never lock their cars ...
I agree, the term did get extended to other unpowered people. Buffy had a ton of training montages and supernatural abilities. One of the things I really liked about the series is that is showed her doing the work, failing and getting back up to do it again. She earned it.Buffy had an excuse because she was magical. I might be able to buy it for a highly trained woman with martial arts experience. That's not what we see most often though.
We don't get upset when Superman can lift a car, we shouldn't get upset when Supergirl can do the same thing.Yeah I don't count superhero characters, magic characters, or characters that have a reason. That's why I think Black Widow gets a pass.
That's another thing that, in the modern world, is kind of going away. When I walk away from my car, it automatically locks behind me.Karate works, only if the opponents are doing Karate ! Anyhow, we're talking movies and mostly not very good ones ! How about in movies where they never lock their cars ...
Absolutely,, super is super ! I'm more in the Ripley, S.Conner camp but also like resident evil even though she is powered up ! I just don't want girls to get hurt tackling giant angry dudes !!We don't get upset when Superman can lift a car, we shouldn't get upset when Supergirl can do the same thing.
