Things you're tired of seeing in movies

That stupid "555-5555" number as a substitute for any phone number in a movie. Seriously, can you just not show the number or them dialing?
Phone companies reserved the 555-0100 through to 555-0199 for fictional use. If real numbers were used in movies, people would call it and disturb others (or did crank calls):oops:

Exactly. When the song "Jenny" (you know, 86765 309) came out back in the '80s people would call that number all the time and bother the people who were unfortunate enough to actually have that as their phone number. This is why movies and TV shows like to use the fictional 555 numbers.

The town I grew up in had a 867 prefix, so that number was likely someone's in my town. I never called it but I bet countless did.
I'd think the movie company lawyers fostered that 555 thing, so that nobody could sue for harassment from phone calls to their number in a movie.

We're stuck with 555, although sometimes they try to mask it by using old timey "K-L-Five" references.
Trouble is, a lot of the time the number itself is not really important and it wouldn't be hard to write the dialogue in a way that didn't require the numbers be spoken out loud.

That actually does happen a lot of times. I've seen quite a number of shows and movies in recent years where a phone number is provided but never spoken out loud.

Does anyone remember when the show 24 was on and they accidentally showed a real cell number as number in the show? People called it and some of the cast would answer the phone and talk. I remember hearing of someone talking to Keifer Sutherland and the girl who played Chloe.

I know that, but I think you're missing my point gentlemen: I'm not saying "use a real number"; I'm saying why even show them dialing or the number displayed? It's not really necessary.

That's my point exactly! Thanks! :D

It was called Bruce Almighty, starring Jim Carey as Bruce. In that film, God contacts Bruce via his pager. The number that showed up was 776-2323. No area code was given, but people started calling the number all over North America to see if God would answer.

That led to a lot of angry people with the number 776-2323 having to deal with those calls. One of them was a pastor in Wisconsin who would respond to the question "Are you God?" by saying, "No, but I can take a message.":p

And we've been telling them where to shove it, graphically, for a while now too.
True to a degree. Now you have woke company telling people for a small fee you don’t have to watch commercials and people are eating it up.They are going to get “God Money” from people one way or another, through movies or streaming.

Nobody says they're listening, they'd rather virtue signal and go bankrupt. It's why Disney has lost 1.5 billion dollars in the last quarter alone. It's why Kevin Feige says that he'd rather have identity politics than good stories. They're willing to ride the woke train all the way down.

It would be hilarious if Jenny actually answered, ; )

Don't know why... sound like clinical insanity to me. Broke, destitute and hungry, just so they can pretend to have some "virtue" that's nothing short of a bad acid trip.

I don’t know if they will all go bankrupt, college professors and “people who work for the people” like paychecks.Sad thing is they will ride the woke train all the way dow but at what cost to society.Woke=anti-intellectual and there is no shortage of idiots globally.

There is a time for helping a sports team player through a bad streak. Giving them some coaching advice. Covering for them while they are injured. Re-training to improve their weak points or change their style. Etc.

There is also a time to replace them.

Disney is way overdue to roll a bunch of heads and install new creative people. If they give the current ones another decade of projects then it's gonna be more of the same failures. That is very clear by now. At some point you have to quit blaming the Kathleen Kennedys and start pointing fingers higher up.
