Things you're tired of seeing in movies

One thing that has been bothering me more and more is putting modern sensibilities into films and characters that take place in a different time where they likely wouldn't exist at all. Often takes me completely out of the story. Stop exaggerating history beyond the point of recognition. Please.
Yes and yes...(y)Then again, some expressions (slang in particular) are no longer known to the "young" generation. "Look at those gams on that broad!" might elude the current movie goers. Same with historical movies: English at the time of Edward VIII might be difficult to show on screen; thus, the use of "classic" English spoken by the actors. It's always a compromise. As for the "sensibilities" of the day; I think the young gen has forgotten to look at the old movies. Generally speaking (women's roles for example), the majority are showing strong women! Watch "Miracle on 34th Street" for example and you won't see "Damsels in distress"...on the contrary;)

Unfortunately, there are an ever-increasing number of people out there who are convinced that whatever they think is, has always been and will always be true and anyone who disagrees, they are, have always been and will always be wrong. These tend to be people with very little life experience and very little clue how reality actually works. Therefore, everyone in the past, they all thought the way that the modern-day tykes think, they all acted the same, they all talked the same and every bit of media out there, no matter when it was made, it all ought to automatically change to modern-day sensibilities or it has to be buried away, never to be seen again.

These people desperately need to grow the hell up.

The Dumbo remake had this ALL OVER. The happy ending relied entirely on a completely modern view of what constitutes animal cruelty on the part of characters who would have been born in the 1800's.

The other downside is that the test is NOT as accurate as a colonoscopy and a negative test does not mean you are in the clear. It is better than no testing at all, especially for patients that are reluctant to have an invasive procedure.

Disclaimer: as a surgeon, I regularly perform colonoscopies.
He's a good actor, it's a shame he keeps taking the same roles over and over.
I don't know if it is related, but it seems like Liam Neeson started doing this after his wife, actress Natasha Richardson, died tragically in 2009. I had the sense he might be taking easy roles because his passion for his craft is diminished ever since.

'Taken' was the hit that seemed to get the snowball rolling on this stage of Liam Neeson's career. That one dates to 2008.

His wife's death probably didn't help, but this is also just a common career path for older action heroes. I dunno why they don't get tired of it but I guess it's steady work that pays well. Most good roles (any genre) go to younger actors, especially starring roles. If Liam Neeson wasn't starring in 'Death Wish' flicks, then would he be starring in anything else? He would probably have to step down the ladder on prestige & budgets.

FWIW, I think Liam is doing this career stage better than most. Denzel Washington is on the same path and doing okay. Bruce Willis is totally embarrassing himself these days. (Steven Seagal would be the worst embarrassment but he never had a respectable stage to start with.)

I wonder if Tom Cruise will go this way. The Scientology witch doctors cannot keep him looking 45yo forever. He's almost 60 now. He already auditioned for the Liam Neeson job with those 'Jack Reacher' movies.

Oh please. Tom Cruise started down the "lame action movie" path with the first Mission Improbable movie, and he hasn't looked like a 45-year-old since he was 27.

At least the older men in Hollywood are still working and bagging the young babes. Not so much for the older actresses...too bad:(

Arnie..
And not a scratch on them lol

So true!

That's why there are more pressures on these actresses to go under the knife to try to get some roles (any role) than men in general.
Too bad; there are a lot of very good old actresses (old in Hollywood is 40) ready and capable of doing a great job...there isn't any writer willing to do so... It's different in Europe where you can still see older actresses playing major roles, either in movies or T.V.(y)

He certainly seemed to change direction..
He does other stuff but its not seen by the masses..
Action/violence sells..

I started watching that Polar movie on Netflix (haven't finished) and in the opening, a shooter sets up what looks like possibly a Barrett .50 or maybe .338 Lapua and he's only 100-200 yds away. Oh and of course he has a huge 6x or 12x scope on it. You could hit the person with iron sights at that distance with a much lower caliber round and do the trick.

I'm glad that most filmmakers don't realize how capable a modern sniper & rifle really is. They always exaggerate stuff to a stupid degree.
