The Wolfman!

hmmm.... it makes me wonder if they'll remake the original Frankenstien and Dracula movies now.... hopefully make them a bit more faithful to their novel origins.

Not sure if they will remake the other Old School monster movies, Dracula did very well just as Frankenstine did, funny side note both were written by James V Hart and were released almost 2 years to the day apart, Drac on Nov 13 and Frank Nov 4 two years later.

I'm looking forward to see the new Wlolfman, I've waited 2 years to see it, and it's getting nothing but good reviews. I'm going tonight with my wife and kids..

Dracula has already been done by Francis Ford Coppola. He remained faithful to Bram Stokers book.

Mary Shelly's Frankenstein has also been done a half dozen times.

The Wolfman is the only monster who didn't have an original novel. Curt Siodmak wrote the original Wolfman movie and made up a lot of what has become werewolf "Law". For instance, he made up the changing into a werewolf at the full moon and also being able to kill a werewolf with silver. Until then, those legends didn't exist. They are pure Hollywood.

I saw it last night, too. I think the atmosphere was great, and it definitely had the best transformation that I've seen. You could really see that it was painful. Like others have said, it's lacking on the story front, but I really enjoyed it overall. It really seems like what a werewolf should be.

I don't have much interest in this movie. I haven't read any reviews, nor have I read anything about the story. Seen the trailer a couple of times though.
I guess, as was mentioned already, that the genre has just been done so many times. Heck, aren't they making another Howling?

But I do understand if Universal is trying to update it's core line of films for new audiences.

Just got back. An unbelieveable POS. Save your money.

The make up is good and it's a nice-looking film (good sets, clothes, etc.), but the story is lame, the acting mediocre, a lot of the scenes drag on. A D-level stinker.

If you're content just to see guts fly, then go and enjoy, but if you're looking for a plot, characterization, most things you go see a movie for then skip it.

Dude.. it's The Wolfman, not Shakespeare.. hehe. I don't expect it to be up for any Oscars next year. From what I've heard, it appears to be meeting my expectations for it, although I probably won't get to see it until next weekend.

It is what it is. It's just a Monster movie!

But I have a copy of one of the early script drafts and there was a lot more plot and character development, which were cut out of the final film, but in the end, it's still a good old fashioned monster movie.

I saw it yesterday... The good: Looks beautiful, great atmosphere and of course the make up spot on. I enjoyed the acting and Hugo Weavings character the best.

My not so good list: Major almost copying AWWIL and Dracula moments. The worst copying of the Dracula score throughout. I was shocked to see Danny Elfman did it. The score really bugged me. Last but not least, the really cheap jump moments where all they did was crank up the volume to startle you.. I hate that crap, simply armature.

Yes, the cheap scare tactics were over done. I too remember hearing something familiar in the score. Unfortunately there was a lot of drama around Danny Elfman and the score. Rumor has it he backed out after completing most of the score and they brought in someone else to finish. Then they went back to his score.

I think the homages to AWIL and Dracula were ok and I enjoyed the nod, especially when I saw David Schofield sitting in the pub.

My wife wants to see this but I'm on the fence.

Answer me this: how awesome is Hugo Weaving in this?
I'm a pretty big fan of him, and he looks cool with those chops, but that's not enough to sell the movie for me.

The goriest movies my son has watched are the Predator movies, and that does not seem to bother him since he loves Predators since watching AvP. However he doesn't even like the idea of slasher movies, and I do not let him watch those anyway. So if the gore is on the same level as say Friday the 13th, then he can't watch it.
If you wanna show a cool monster movie to your kid, if he hasn't already seen it, show him Monster Squad! :thumbsup

He's does a pretty good job in his role as the inspector. He does reprise the vocal stylings of Agent Smith though.

Again, don't go into this movie expecting a blockbuster. Go to see it as a classic monster movie. Buy some popcorn and enjoy The Wolfman!

That's a cop out. You can say that about any movie: it's just a comedy, it's just a gangster film, it's just a war movie. A film of any type is well written, acted, etc., or it's not. No letting things off the hook because it's "just a monster movie." The old Universal's are just monster movies too, but they're well crafted and this one isn't. It's another piece of crap that relies on blood and guts in place of suspence and real scares.

I can easily see why this film's release was held for so long.

Exactly.

Even 80 years later, we're still digging 'em!

I doubt any of us will even remember this movie by the end of the year.

Personally I thought it was great... and not unforgetable.

How anyone can consider the acting with this cast mediocre is beyond me.

Yep, we can say that about any movie.

As much as I love the original Wolfman, it was far from well crafted. The story was extremely boring and the acting was well, 40's melodramatic. This was a remake of THAT movie, so you have to go in with that in mind.

If you want something more, pop in AWIL, Ginger Snaps, The Howling, WOLF (a great werewolf movie in my opinion with a great story)...
