If you were still looking to tap into the 24pin connection you’ll have to start and identify the LCD-TFT pins (signal/data lines) used coming from the ARM part no. STM32H750ZB…see the link for the data sheets. Be careful to stick to the info as it applies to only this part number STM32H750ZB (144 pin package), not the other packages listed. …….it’s not going to be as easy as tapping into just RGB lines…….. and a BIG Good Luck with that..unless your an Engineer of course ;)

The Engineering symbol is curios to me. Command and Sciences symbols make sense to me. Is it supposed to represent a bolt perhaps in motion?

This is probably why I always thought that there were only 3 official insignia patches. I’ve been watching TOS since it first aired in the 60’s and only found out recently that there was is a slightly more obscure 4th insignia patch.

Thanks for your post. You're totally right. This is the roadblock I hit last night. The 24 pins from the display are not based off a standardized layout. They are whatever the LCD manufacturer decides they will be. So the only way to connect the display to another source and have it actually work is to know what each of the 24 pins does, and the only way to figure that out is to use specialized equipment to identify the timing, pin-out, color lines, voltage etc. of each pin, and then use something called a breadboard to jumper the 24 pins to the DPI on a raspberry pi. I'm pretty sure this goes beyond what i am capable of, but there is a possible way around having to do all this.

Yesterday when i spotted the number on the display ribbon i thought i recognized the logo for a company called Waveshare that supplies displays like the one in the tricorder. I reached out to their support staff and asked if they could give me more info on the display. It turns out i was wrong and they didn't supply the display, but they still tried really hard to help me out. they sent me a follow up email asking for all the info i had, so i sent them back the hi-res pics from the teardown guys website, and this morning i woke up to another email from them. They confirmed that i need to disassemble my activities unit, get into the back of the display and do the one thing that tear-down video didn't do - peel the black cloth tape off the back of the screen and see if there's anything that identifies the manufacturer and has a model/serial number on it, so i can then find the correct manufacturer and see if they can provide the data sheet. The Waveshare team is willing to keep trying to help me, even though its got nothing to do with them. Awesome people. They told me to send them a pic of the back of the display and they'd see what they can come up with.

I was really hoping i could figure this all out and get the parts i need before i did my own dissassembly, but in reality i will have to do the dissassembly and then leave it all apart while i try and get the info i need so i can move to the next step.

But here is the thing that's discouraging me. In my research Ive learned that the tricorders stm32h750 cortex m7 chip has all the hardware necessary to read .mp4 video from USB or SD, decode it, and display it using its own LCD controller. The only thing it needs is the firmware. It seems like it would be way better if someone smarter than me could get in and modify the firmware to give it video playback capabilities. I have read through a step by step guide on how to do this, but theres a risk i could "brick" the tricorder in the process. scary.

So im going to think about this for a few days and then decide what my next step is. Maybe i can find a forum board out there with hobbyists that would be willing to write me some new firmware. Even if this method means i will lose the tricorders original OS, it can be backed-up and restored later. Or maybe i will just do the dissassembly and get the info from the back of the display and see if i can get a data sheet for the pins. i dunno... if its going to be complicated either way, id rather do the one that doesnt require me to dissassemble the entire device.

There were always at least 4 insignia. Command, Science, Engineering and support and a Medical insignia. You would think McCoy would wear that one all the time.

Reach out to the phone “jailbreak”. community. I bet you could get somebody to down a few Redbulls and take this on as a fun project no problem. Maybe Reddit ~ :unsure:(y)
