Ironically Woodbury only gets interesting when they kidnap people from the prison. It is almost like a spinoff show. A familiar face or two. Cameos from the original. Nobody really cares until they do a crossover.

Changing the subject:
In an actual zombie apocalypse situation, I would train my group to not use handguns unless absolutely necessary. It's stunning how often Rick and crew will start letting off loud handgun rounds at a range where pulling a melee weapon would be more ideal. I think SCA members would actually have an advantage over military and police in that respect, thanks to their knowledge of spears, halberds and poleaxes.

It's funny you say that, because I've been saying that as well. In fact the show keeps going back and forth about it. Sometimes they'll mention not to use guns because it'll attract more walkers but other times they'll shoot one point blank range. Obviously there is more risk by going melee though. Also, if they fire their guns in the jail, the sound would be deafening from the acoustics.

Weren't they supposed to be running low on ammunition in 301?

Merle is in it at least up until episode 12 that I saw, although I was told he's in the finale. Daryl makes it to the finale, which is finishing reshoots right now. Although, after talking to Norman, he's gonna have a bumpy ride

Yup, not much live steel with the SCA plus I'm not entirely certain SCA people really know how to handle their weapons. I've never been to an SCA event but my impression was that the average SCA person really isn't a trained fighter and pretty much just bash each other over the heads with their rattan swords. I'd think that fencers and kendo people would be better if given a real sword like what they use in class, especially since they'd be going up against what's essentially an unarmed opponent. Better yet would be to get with some people who practice real swordsmanship, much better than either fencers or keno-ka since they practice with real blades based on old manuals describing how to really fight with a sword.

I know this is going to be insane to hear, but I've got to ask: Can anyone see the Governor's point of view about the Atlanta group? I mean, I've done some thinking about it, and I sort of see his side about the Atlanta group. Seriously, he doesn't have any idea about the Atlanta group except from what Merle told him. And knowing how selfish Merle is, he probably didn't tell the Governor about why Rick handcuffed him to the roof in Atlanta, and probably also didn't tell him about the fact that he also threatened members of those who made the run into Atlanta by shoving a gun in their face. Granted, the Governor knows that Merle has done his duty to Woodbury and stuck by his side, and I know that the Governor is a selfish A-hole himself (as we know he killed the army guys for their supplies and to make sure there was no one to possibly ruin his control over Woodbury), but honestly, he's a lot LESS of an A-hole than he was in the comics (for those who haven't read them,

after allowing Rick, Michonne and Glen into Woodbury he cut off Rick's hand, raped Michonne and left Glen in a room with a clear view of zombies feasting on the two people who the Woodbury group rescued from the helicopter. And all of it because he wanted all of Rick and company's supplies.

So, could it be possible that the Governor considers the Atlanta group a threat to Woodbury, not as a threat to the Governor's control, but the fact that he actually believes them to be even more dangerous than those in Woodbury?

I'm not saying I agree with the Governor's point of view, but Merle surely didn't tell him the whole story about what happened in Atlanta, and the fact that the Governor found out that 10 people took over an overrun prison (a feat that the Governor says is impossible) pretty much shows how much bad-ass the Governor considers them.

Fair enough. I think my local group (that I have yet to join) is just a bit more bloodthirsty than most segments of the SCA, since they follow proper disciplines and all own sharp weapons besides their rattan equipment. Most aspects of medieval sword fighting are kind of useless, as they focus on distracting and parrying, but many aspects of German longsword fighting lend themselves well to quickly decapitating a group of walkers. Kendo is also a great option, because it teaches economy of movement and spatial awareness. I would not recommend fencing lessons. All poking, no strong blows. You'd have to be really good to get eye shots, and there's no slashing capabilities to hack off encroaching arms. The best melee for actively clearing out zombies will be the katana or the hand and a half broadsword. The best for personal protection in the event of a zombie suddenly appearing in your personal space is either a kukri or a tanto (or a WWI trench spike). Spears would be handy but whoever uses it needs to able to accurately stab the eyes or mouth. Halberds/poleaxes are really the best long range melee weapon, since they can be 7-8ft long and gravity can do most of the work. You'd also get a surer skull break than with a hatchet. But the halberdiers would lack the ability to kill any walker who gets inside that 7ft perimeter.

I really wish this show would display how hard skulls really are. I also wish the zombies wouldn't drop dead without the back of the brain getting obliterated. But alas, in a world of 11 round revolvers and 20 round shotguns, human biology will always be left out to dry.

As much as that scene may offend it's an effective interrogation technique. The threat/fear of pain is often more effective than the actual torture.

The Gov went in there knowing she's a surviver, and after the brief discussion he also knew she wasn't going to fall for his charm.

The other choice was to let Merle go beat the heck out of her too. The Gov knew he'd never get anything out of her that way. The humilation of having her strip off her shirt/bra put her off balance, then the threat of rape ultimately broke her. You could also see how effective it was against Glenn. He took a major beating from Merle without saying a word, but one look at Maggie and he'd tell them anything to save her.

Oh no I wasn't "offended", it's just gut wrenching to watch stuff like that. And I totally "get" the logic behind it. It doesn't make it any easier to stomach and I think the writers really know how to sell it. The similar scene in BSG I had a really hard time sitting through when it was on air and I had to walk away from the TV for a minute.
