The Walking Dead Season 3

I'm wondering how important the doctor's "tea" is to the storyline... first the Governor brings it up, then they serve it at breakfast, and the doctor makes a point of asking Andrea how she likes it.

Ya and the scientist was really weird about it too. He had really awkward body language.

I'm sure the fact that the other walkers were getting riled up and that there was blood and guys scattered all over the ground had something to do it with it. The way I see it, the BF and friend walkers got accustomed to Andrea and Michonne being there and treated them like other walkers. But if another walker gets riled up or they smell blood, they go ape.

I don't want to spoil myself by reading the comic book ...lol

You won't. Well, not exactly. The plotline of the comics follows the general plot of the show, but it doesn't follow it exactly. And there are also MAJOR changes that happen, as well as characters who don't appear at all in the show and those who are in the show but don't appear at all in the comics.

It's actually nice because you can sort of know what's coming, but you're never 100% if they're gonna do what you think is coming next.

The way I see it they just took out the national guards to scavenge their weapons, food, supplies etc. Merle also seemed genuine when he said to Andrea he was sorry for what happened to Amy, I have a feeling he may wind up switching sides

Seems to me it wouldn't be so easy for rag tag group of guys to take out a guard unit like that. Wouldn't they already have someone on watch as walkers could be anywhere and the trust no one mode should be in effect. But ya it's just a show. Also only reading some of comics as I realized it would cost a small fortune to get them all. My take was the governor has power in this new world he didn't have before and any outside survivors have a possible chance at takeing that away.

Not necessarily, depends a lot on the type of Guard unit they were, they could have been support or admin troops just acting as infantry or they could have been one that never deployed so weren't all that seasoned. Plus, I'd say that being on guard for walkers is completely different from being on guard for an ambush by a gun wielding force. Walkers are going to, mostly, shamble and growl(?) as they come to you and you'll see them coming where as the Guvna's troops were well concealed and had the advantage of surprise. They were also inside a gated compound as I recall and granted that if enough walkers press on it the fencing would collapse it would hold long enough for them to notice and start shooting.

Anyone have even the vaguest clue as to how far apart the two groups might be? In time, we're talking 7 months from the end of last season, but I'm wondering if anyone of the town group (including the Governor) may have actually come from the prison...

And Merle sure seemed to tuck his tail under when the Governor ordered him around, I wonder what he has on him?

I think Merle is smart enough to realize that unless he does so, the Governor has far too many blindly loyal men who would be more than he could handle. He did loose a hand to a smaller majority.

I think we will see when the time is right, he will turn on him. Maybe, just maybe when the Governor tries to make an example of Daryl. It will be fun to see what happens.

Later in the last episode when they are looking over the "pets" heads and bodies, and they talk about them being docile it confused me.

If they were docile because of the missing arms and lower jaw (no real way to feed) why (other than a story point) were they getting excited?

I wonder if it was because Merle was behind them watching, or getting nearer. He was there pretty quick after they were beheaded...

apparently during one scene of filming was just the Gov, Merle, Martinez, and a few of the Gov's men. Oh, and like 35-40 zombies! Tons of simulated gunfire. For those of you who read the comics, you know Martinez is the Governor's right hand man. I wonder if he is the one snooping around e prison? This is getting interesting!

Well the bites aren't really the issue, it's the death right? I guess how I see it as the bite will cause an infection and kill that person which will turn them. Am I right?

Yeah. Everyone is already infected. The bites just speed up the process and kills them. Whether you die from a bite or a helicopter crash or natural causes, you come back. I guess the bites just up your viral load and in some cases, the bites themselves can be fatal (major artery ripped open or organ damaged). So depending on the severity of the bite, it could be a matter of minutes to days before you turn.

There's never been a determination of what causes the walkers, the only 'viral load' might be the cesspool of bacteria and filth that is growing in the petri dish of the walker mouth and under it's nails. Get bit with something that nasty you're going to get some pretty bad infections pretty quick that are going to kill you. Once you're dead, you become a walker.

If they're all walkers in one form or another...I wonder if the living bite the living if the same effect would occur. I mean, it's a little far-fetched for that 'viral load' would grow and develop in the short period between death and turning into a walker. Doubt we'd see this occur anytime soon though without some classic chick-fights.

I don't think it's a virus contained in the saliva such that a bite will accelerate it. Rather, I think it's just basic infection (staph, strep, some other bacteria) followed by death that does it. I mean, walkers are decomposing corpses for pete's sake. Imagine what would happen if you cut your hand badly, and then stuck it into a rotting corpse here in the real world, then let that go untreated. I'd say it's entirely possible you'd die.

One thing that's interesting is in Shane's death and subsequent reanimation, and why that happens so quickly. I seem to recall there being some discussion of why that was, and how it had to do with his emotional state at the time. Not sure that explains anything clearly, but it's interesting nonetheless.
