The Ultimate Marty McFly Jean Jacket Lining Thread

I have made another discovery related to this thread. There seems to have been another sports related liner print that was not as common as the football player. A Golfer!

Yes this came in the same style jacket as the football player liner, just much more rare.

This is the closest thing I could find so far, it’s a photo of golfer Al Espinosa from 1926.

I’m still searching for matching images of the Dirtbike Rider too, but I have a feeling the artist that made the Guess liner used elements from both of those photos I posted as reference. The same thing applies here, I found some other images of golfers in very similar poses and I think the artist may have taken elements from several of them as reference.

Would be very tempting to do some kind of BTTF characters in the same style of drawing as a liner easter egg...

It’s literally just a stack of magazines under my bed haha and I haven’t reached out to the photographer’s widow to possibly see more because I know her and want to respect her (especially since the anniversary of his passing just happened).

Most of the magazines have literally nothing to do with the jacket. I buy them in the hopes of finding a new pic, but rarely do.
TheNickFox Have you ever come across this photo in any of your magazines by chance? The community could really benefit from a higher quality scan of this image!

I wish. It’s part of the same series.

I promise once it’s not so near the anniversary of his passing I’ll reach out to the photographer’s wife and ask her about how to buy pictures from that series directly.

I feel like that photo could possibly confirm the Hollywood Fabric on the back liner panel.

I can’t tell if that’s the side seam there beside the pocket or not. We need to find a full quality copy someday, I think it will tell us more than these other blurry shots we have.

Is it just me or, in that photo, the jacket looks super small, even for MJF? It fits him pretty well normally, but it looks tight there. Also, his hair looks strange.
He did a full photoshoot in multiple outfits that day. The red background is the tell. So he wasn't made up as Marty, just wearing his clothes.

And he's pulling his left hand back while holding onto the bottom of the jacket which is making it look tighter than it is since it's not hanging off him and his arm is blocking the bulk of the jacket behind him.

Having known the photographer, I can hear him giving him the direction to pull that side back to show his shirt more. I'm so sad I never got to talk to him about this shoot, though I was fortunate enough to talk to him about other amazing shoots he did. Looking back, he always claimed to have taken the photos that the movie posters were based on for BTTF and I have to wonder if it was this shoot he was talking about.

I actually feel like getting some of the photographer’s unreleased shots out there would be a great way to honor him! And on the 40th Anniversary no less.
Coincidentally yesterday was Kurt Cobain’s 58th birthday and his personal photographer himself posted this previously unpublished image; It’s from the same show as one of the most infamous photos of Kurt ever taken!

Seems like they did take the time to add some sort of liner like the 1985 version did. Not 100% sure if it’s paisley. If it is, it means they had a good amount of this fabric. Makes me wonder if they got it from something already available.
Is this shot from the open matte version of Part 2? I've always wanted to look at a 4:3 rip of the movie and see if there's more of the jacket visible.

Open matte version? What do you mean.
The theatrical widescreen version of most movies is actually about half of what was actually put on film. When Marty walks by the Blast From The Past window in Part 2, you can see about the bottom of the jacket, but nothing up from that. I was wondering if a 4:3 open matte version of the film would show more of the jacket on the mannequin.

Here's a good example. Notice how much more of the top and bottom you can see in the open matte version.
Though, the jacket is far from the camera and in dark lighting, so I assume it wouldn't help much.

I wish better pictures existed of this, but Kurt Kobain owned this vintage shirt that was auctioned off several years ago. Brand is Saks Fifth Avenue.

Not sure if this was ever brought up, but looking at the scene where Marty puts the phone book page in his inner jacket pocket with the paisley, the pocket sits at the same level the other side Hollywood pocket does. Which is right between the 3rd and 4th snaps.

Seems I was mistaken. I went back in the thread and found Nick did mention the paisley pocket. Looks like it's a bit higher than the Hollywood pocket and doesn't extend all the way down. TheNickFox would you be able to tell where the paisley pocket ends exactly? The picture is quite blurry.
