The Thing prequel

There's also the possibility that it's like The Hunt for Red October or various Star Treks... just because we hear them speaking English, it doesn't mean they are necessarily speaking English.

According to the official site, it's a sort of international scientific team... but the bulk of them and the team that made the initial discovery are Norwegian. So it's entirely possible that some of them are multi-lingual while others are not.

In fact... it would appear that there a lot of American characters in this movie on a Norwegian run base.

It also appears that there is a translator played by Kim Bubbs... at least according to Wikipedia.

I think it looks pretty good. Although it looks the same as the original you can't really complain considering its showing the exact same situation at a different camp. I know one thing I wanted to see in the original you never got to was the inside of the ship and the monster's original form. I think when they look at it the hatch door it open though...

Oh, I wouldn't exactly say it looks like the original.

Spoilery images/news below.

Here they come...

Ye was warned!....

Sounds good. We will see come October how much they truly relied on practical effects. A lot of what I'm seeing in the trailers is majorly CGI

CGI or not, I think it's looking pretty darn cool.
The marketing campaign on thethingmovie.net is good too.

Looking forawrd to it.

BTW, while visiting the website, one of the clips that flashes by during the "Explore the Camp" shows that there is one character that speaks only Norwegian, which confirms my earlier suspicion of there being a few characters that speak only Norwegian while others are possibly bilingual.

I hope that the film, when it ends, that they end up using footage of the Outpost 31 crew from the opening scene of Carpenter's film. The best place to end it would be with MacReady's line after they put out the fire from the chopper explosion, "First ******* week of winter."

^I would love for it to end that way. So many good lines from J.C.'s version, and that is by far one of the most memorable.

I'm glad you agree. Seriously, it'd be the best line to end on because that was pretty much the one line that set up what was going to be the next few days of horror for Outpost 31. I'm just hoping that they also include the footage of the actors from Carpenter's film. Just seems weird to end with the Norwegians just taking off in their chopper to chase the Dog-Thing and leaving it completely open like that. Why not go ahead with the overlap? At least allow it to set up so that the audience who hasn't seen Carpenter's The Thing can have a reason to go and rent it, and then see, "Oh! That's how it appeared to the Americans!"

Check out the split face footage on the same link, way way more impressive than initial footage, hopes are getting higher for this movie.
