Did not see another thread on this, and as a lover of both the story that inspired both films, inlcuding my favorite version (John Carpenter's)...I was pretty excited to learn that this studio is going to be doing the effects work:

Pretty nice body of work on their website:thumbsup

I had no idea a prequel was in the works, the original is always amusing to me, seeing a head sprout legs and walk on the floor is wacky.

Interesting....some very nice work on the site. I think i heard rumors it was a remake, which made me very ill as its one of my all time fave's (Carpenter's) but to hear news of a prequel.......oh please dont fudge this up.......please.

I was a little skeptical about this prequel. Now that ADI is onboard this is very promising. They are the best in the biz!

Bottin would be great to have back at the helm. He was brilliant (Howling, Fight Club). He disappeared though. Didn't realize he got into the real estate market....

Not expecting much out of this one with Moore writing.

Carpenter already has Kurt and Keith ready to do a sequel where his left off but says there is no way the studio will pay his fee.

I won't get into how much I hate prequel movies, but i'm curious why this isn't getting the same hate that the Predators movie is. In my opinion, part of what made The Thing amazing was the fact it's an 80's movie, and I don't think that's something they can capture again today.

Ok well I lied, I hate prequels because there's no suspense when you already know how the film is going to turn out. Obviously this is not true for everyone, but for me, I can't help say.... what's the point? At the end of the film they all die and the last Norwegian gets shot in the face. I don't know, I just would really hate to have to start referring to The Thing as "that one amazing movie! that... oh... uh... it also has a prequel...." and hang my head in shame.

Umm... You guys do realize that John Carpenter's The Thing is a remake, not the original right? 1951's The Thing (From Another World) was the original film based on the short story "Who Goes There?"

Don't get me wrong- The Thing ('82) is a good remake. In fact it's probably one of the best (if not the best) remake ever made. It much more closely follows the short story, has superior acting, effects, scares etc, than the 50s drive-in horror film.

But that being said, I have little faith left in Hollywood and especially remakes/prequels/sequels these days. With ADI on board I'm sure the effects will be great... But the acting, directing, and story are where it really counts.

I'd much rather have a prequel than a remake to ruin my memory of a good flick, but then again look at TPM:lol

As long as it ends with the "dog" running away from the burning camp and the helicopter flying after it. :)

Wouldnt that just be Ben Grimm flying ships and hanging out with pre powers Reed Richards :lol

I had this bizzare thought for a Robot Chicken skit.

Have Kurt Russell from the film with a flame thrower strapped to him and the petri dishes full of blood. He looks at the guys tied to the chair and says "All right, now we're going to find out who's the Thing." Cut to the people in the chairs and it is the Fantastic Four all tied up and they all eye Ben Grimm with a quizical look. Then the channel changes... ;)

Technically Carpenters 'Thing' is not a remake. Carpenter's version is actually a very true adaptation based on the original 1938 source material, the book entitled 'Who Goes There?' by John W. Campbell Jr.
Much closer to the book than 'The Thing From Another World'.
The prequel could work if they stay true to the events that were shown at the Norwegian outpost in the '82 film. But like everyone knows, there's no suspense. We know the Norwegians find the saucer, Thermite it out of the ice, it thaws out, wakes up (probably not in the best of moods) and chaos ensues.
The Thing takes the shape of a dog and the last 2 human Norwegian survivors chase it to Outpost 31.
If they stay true to what we know happens then they're painted into a corner as far as creative license.
Of couse it's Hollywood so they could throw all that out the window and pull an 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' on us.

Watch out... Hollywood might read that and have the Norwegians find the creature which takes the shape of Wolverine and attacks the camp. He'd be running around saying "Here I come, bub!" and slashing with his claws.
