The Rocketeer Returns!

At best (for me), it'll be a nice "better than nothing" thing ...

Personally, I wouldn't say that after the offensively bad Ghostbusters comics that have been spit out lately. I would, honestly, rather have nothing. 'Nothing' would be better. :lol

i like the ghostbusters comics from idw. they're not offensively bad to anyone other than the pantleggers. i like them a million times more than the 88mph comic that for whatever ridiculous reason is held is such a high regard. and dapper dan can take a short leap off a tall bridge.

idw generally wants people that are fans to like the book, and its a shame they're starting to pander to people that dont have any real investment in the property other than they complain the loudest, and thats why dapper dan is doing the next book.

Yeah, that's the Rocketeer but I don't think it's any image I've ever seen and I've been at this for a while... It's gotta be some kind of custom thing. Maybe art done by another artist or fan and given to him (?). It's certainly not a mass produced item, that's for sure. Even limited quantity prints or other rare collectibles have a way of popping up SOMEWHERE... either on ebay or on art collector forums or the like. But I can't say I've ever seen that one before.

It must be a custom piece, but what amazes me is that it depicts a scene that was not shown in the film (excluding the rocketeer)

Several scenes was cut out of the nazi propaganda film..They must of ended up on the cutting room floor to be replaced by the actors reactions to the film..

The storyboards I own and the original film reel that I have shown scenes that werent included in the film

There is some kind of title on the bottom of the poster. I can't make it out. Somehow we have to figure out the artist. I stopped looking and just decided to ask Lee when I see him at a convention. Are there any other Rocketeer resources out there?

Not really... at least there aren't any organized resources. There have been a couple of web sites here and there that briefly talked about stuff or interviewed people but that's about it.

I've wanted to start a web site devoted to Rocketeer stuff for a while but I just haven't had the time and I hate to do it half-a&&ed with updates every three months, y'know?

There are some hardcore Rocketeer fans here of course and I know at least one collector that isn't here that I sometimes contact but other than that, it's really just talking to people that share common interests, y'know? Heck, Mike is one of only a few that care to hear me rant and rave about Rocketeer helmet inaccuracies and details after all so I HAVE to stay in touch with them :lol

Other than that, the RPF is a resource in itself because it's a good place to find guys like Mike, Jeff, myself and some of the other finheads... Heck, it's also one of the same reasons I never have changed my avatar or username in the ten years I've been a member here - so people can find me a little more easily.

Not to stray too far off topic, but I had to google "pantleggers" so I knew the name I was being called. I don't believe it follows that the "only ones" the comics aren't effective for are those fans who complained about a detail of an action figure. I don't appreciate being lumped into a group for the sake of being written off as a whiner.

Back to Rocketeer stuff.

i have to apologize for throwing you into that mix if you felt that way. as a "sort of" member of the ghostbusters online community i argue until im blue in the face that there are people that are fans of ghostbusters that are not members of the online gb community (and mainly because of "pantleggers" who believe that everything ghostbusters related is catered to them, i dont blame people who arent apart of it for not being so). if you are not a member of it then i have made a very big hypocritical error on my part and submit an apology to you.

however, its great books man. give it a chance. the more people that read it, the better its going to get. idw is handling it really well, but sporadic sales and they really are trying to cater to the fans of ghostbusters, a very large shinning example im really not happy they did(because of how it was handled on the "fans" part) was they have dapper dan do the art for an issue coming up. 88mph's ghostbuster series? THAT was offensive.

the actual definition of a "pant legger" is someone that will critique everything and be completely unhappy with what is being released in any form. it spawns from where peter venkman's pant legs were in some comic. i prefer to call them the "gareee's" as a finger point to a specific person who seems to think he's the uber fan and every fan of ghostbusters must abide by his rules of that fanbase. :/

still, im sorry.

Cool..Let me know what he says....the bottom portion looks like numbers

Finheadcentral.yuku.com has information but it has been dead for awhile..It goes through its moments of no activity to having activity...

There are some rocketeer fan pages but they lack a lot ton of info, pictures, ect etc.....I was planning to create a website as well, but I havent had much time to research how to create one etc etc...I see what other sites lack, and I want to make one to fill those gaps. I wanted to create a memroabilia section to show off the memroabilia, helmet section to descirbe helmets available on the market, rocketpack section, etc etc

haha, I dont mind hearing Dualedge ranting or raving at all. I enjoy it. It is good to know some-one else knows all the inaccuracies of the darn thing..

Just remember wakeem, I am the king of the finheads followed by rob and jeff..:lol Nah, I am kidding..Supreme ruler is more like it.. ;)

If you have time, search rocketbobs on the rpf and finhead..He gave a ton of info on the packs...

:lol You just wait. In something like 25-30 years when both my kids are grown up and their college tuition is paid off, you're gonna be in trouble.

Love the new pics!

I tried the link but apparently USA Today is having some problems... maybe it'll start working later. :unsure

I'm very excited to follow this, as I heard that Tommy Lee Edwards and Jonathan Ross will follow up their incredible run on TURF by working on Rocketeer. These guys are a really solid team!

Looks neat.

It's too bad they used a Denix Mauser for reference, though. :lol

The panel page reminds me of Mike Allred's artwork. But man, just looking st this stuff really makes me miss DS's work.

And just tot oss in my 2cents on the rocketpack - I love the movie pack but the comic pack is still my favorite - maybe because I was into the comic wayyy before the movie and all the dreams I had of owning a helmet and rocket pack - well that pack was the one I wanted. Don't get me wrong - I'll still take a movie one if someone wants to donate it. Pretty please.

Ditto. I'm glad they want to continue making Rocketeer stuff and all the work the artists and folks are going to in order to pay tribute to Dave Stevens but, yeah, nobody will ever match Dave's art. And, much to my chagrin, nobody will ever draw the helmet "right" IMHO ever again. :p

I used to know John Cassaday back in college, I haven't seen him in over 15 years though. Very cool guy. A big smart-ass and has a quick wit. Very funny. He was an amazing artist back then. I used to say, "one of these when you're famous, I'm going to tell people that I know you". Haha

That colored panel preview is pretty far from Dave Stevens quality. I hope the rest are done better.

I can deal with pretty vastly different drawing styles and the Allred type style that Jet mentioned definitely has its own kind of charm but maybe the coloring on that story page is maybe just temp coloring or something? It doesn't look finished to me because of the way the sky has that colored pencil look to it. Maybe it's supposed to have a more simplistic/retro look to the coloring? Better coloring would definitely help that page IMHO.

That first page with the big image by Cassady is very, very cool.
