The Rise of Skywalker: Episode IX Graflex

Hey khal1993 when these go up for sale are you going to post here on the RPF in the JY or let us know in this Thread, or will it all be through your FB page and website? I'm following your FB page but I don't want to miss the ordering window and I was hoping you might take pre-orders (reservations) from us guys/girls on the RPF looking to pick up your saber.

Khal would have to let us know his latest plans, but I think he's pretty busy with the Verso launch at the moment. Unless he's changed his mind, there won't be a preorder. From watching his video updates I believe the plan is to post on Facebook a date & time that it will go on sale. He did the same thing with the Verso & also put it up on his website, out of stock, ahead of time. That way everyone who was interested could also sign up for an e-mail update for when it went up for sale.

Sure! I'll reply here and let everybody know. I have some of the Grade B 3 Cells on the store now. But what I'll do is add the listing shortly before it goes live for the EP9 kits and people can add their emails and get an email when they're in stock :)

Yeah, the Verso went far better than anticipated. I've shipped about 400 packages this week so far! LOL. Been hectic! But yes, the EP9 stuff is still on my list. Just these issues in China and packages being held is causing a real problem. Some little bits I am waiting for and there is just no movement. I feel very bad for the Chinese people. It's an awful time for them :(

I'm glad it went so well! I've been following your projects closely of late waiting on those Kylos & the Dark Rey ;) But this is one of those delays you definitely can't be mad at; it is terrible what China is going through.

Yesterday, I searched Alibaba's second-hand online market and found this flash which is said to come from Germany. Its clip made me feel familiar...

It definitely has the right vibe going on, even though the screen used one was custom fabricated. Could still be cool to display if you're into that, or making your own versions of things :D

For ep9's Graflex lightsaber, I think the best solution is the Roman shell with KR clip.

In terms of accuracy, I don't think I need to worry because there are experts working hard.

What I care about is the pattern of scars. If we want to get an accurate hero lightsaber, we must fully confirm the shape of the wound, which needs no doubt. What I'm worried about is that these scars need some special process to be made. I think the steps are: frame the outer contour - carve out the scars - burn out the black traces - paint with gold paint. I can't help thinking that this is a problem for both template makers and lightsaber makers.

There's multiple different versions of the scars depending on the scenes - I know Khal is working on a template, and I think they've picked the one you see the most in the movie as "the hero" scar version. I'm assuming his details on that will come out when he's ready to sell the EP9 kits.

So... we went from "OW! These grips hurt!" from like every actor who's swung a GRAFLEX lightsaber, so much so that a foam handled stunt had to be created, to:

"Hey! I've got a brilliant idea on how to hang the GRAFLEX on a belt all by itself! Let's put a sharp-pointed metal grip strip on one side and it can slide over the belt like a pocket knife clip!"

STUPID!

I can't believe they actually Band-Aided the GRAFLEX, if that's what we're seeing and it's not a homage build by Rey, I'm beside myself with the lack of imagination in not only the prop department, but the entire team responsible for this storyline. They should be as ashamed of themselves as Rian should be for tearing the GRAFLEX in half in the first place.

Like there's not a single shard of crystal left in the Star Wars galaxy for a Force user to create a new lightsaber with. Especially not in a BIG OLE DEATH STAR that used them to create the ultimate power in the universe! No, of course there wouldn't be even one little bitty bit of a crystal left there or even a bit of crystal that went flying into Yavin or Endor. Nor in a container headed to build the next even bigger Death Star (you know there was one out there! ;) ). Looks like Rey already has the repaired GRAFLEX on her hip when they see it, so, who knows why they're there, whereever there is. And NOONE EVER made a synthetic crystal. NOPE!

With the myriad of unique lightsabers created by fans over the last 42 years, how could those involved with creating Episode IX not have drawn inspiration from them and given Rey a lightsaber of her own. They make her out to be SO wonderful, yet all she can come up with is a Band-Aided GRAFLEX.

WEAK!

Star Wars movies are dead. Long Live the Expanded Universe. Off to read a book written when Star Wars meant something to those that wrote it.
Could'nt agree more! Well said! Yah Rian also had the Graflex "laser sword" tossed off a cliff too  that movie was such a joke I can't even stand to watch it again! Hammil is so out of character...

I made that template / stencil for Khal's run. It's based on very accurate source material! It's a two step stencil: one for the scars and afterwards one for the stains. I think using a dremel for the scars and paint for the stains will give you an accurate result. I haven't been able to test it yet, because (like most of us) I'm waiting for Khal's saber to be ready.
I also made the leather wrapping for that run.
