The PEPAKURA question thread - PLEASE READ RULES IN FIRST POST!

Hey guys, I just started on a pep I recieved from Dung0...How important is it that the numbers line up perfectly?
Will I be able to fix symmetry issues after I do those polyurethane coatings?
It is a quick build and by no means will be perfect, just trying things out
This Aquaglass is all I need to coat my Pep for hardening?

the first one isnt bad, it happens when you dont work clean and maybe will need a little more work afterwards, but nothing big

the second one shouldnt happen, in fact it shouldnt even be possible,unless you made a mistake somewhere

also, why do people bump a stickied thread?

Yeah the numbers are the same just slightly off...
I just bump till someone see's my cries for help...
I guess I'll be coating this with Aquaglass, correct? From a craft store?

also, it doesnt change the position of the thread if you bump it, its allways at the top anyway

I need help on Pepakura viewer. I downloaded Pepakura viewer v3 and Im trying to download Halo Reach armor from 405th.com and I downloaded the files and it wont show up on the file when you try open up a file on pepakura viewer. please help

Hello guys, I coated the Pep in paper mache clay, then coated the cracks with joint compound. The inside is totally bare. How do I coat the inside? I have mod podge, craft bond spray and joint compound.

on my ranger helmet inside i just used paper mache strips
which is just newspaper strips with watered down pva glue

hey guys had a bit of an issue today when applying fiberglass resin to my iron man pep helm. It has undone a whole heap of my hot glue joints! any help to rectify this would be appreciated. cheers!

White glue is not affected by resin. Resin/hardener creates heat which can make hot glue melt. Picking blobs of glue out of your hair after a hot day in your shiny new helmet is not fun. Some people like superglue, but I prefer the workability of white glue.

the problem here usually is, that you use too much resin, so that the paper gets soaked up and seperates from the hot glue, as the hot glue is not as connected to the paper as standard glue. glue soaks in better into the paper, so its connected better

if you dont use too much resin, it should be fine.

yeah i did a pretty thin first coat and then it fell apart on my second

Ok cheers might give white glue a go for my next piece.
May need to use superglue or araldite in the mean time to bring my now hardened broken joints back together. this is going to be a pain in the ass!:cry

HI all, I'm looking to make some pep-based kit for LARP use (probably a one-off), so don't want to go to the expense of bondo / fibreglass / resin to firm them up. Is it worth even trying papiermache?
Likewise for bulking a hollow prop, once it's coated (like in papiermache) could I use expanding foam to firm it up some?

i made this:

out of pepakura, with paper mache and dry wall compound

cost me 30 bucks including paint and primer.
id say you can make anything if you put some work into it. paper mache route will probably take you longer tho, resin/filler is way faster, and sturdier too.

So question for everyone... I'm looking to buildup an area on my pep piece I'm working on.

I need to build a ridge/detail around my magneto helmet. I tried clay and that failed horribly as it looked great wet but when it dried it cracked and just started falling off.

I'm debating on just using bondo and just applying a few layers to create the level I need.
