The One That Got Away

What's the one kit you had at one time, but didn't build, and got rid of that you miss? Or you didn't get that you regret missing out on? The kit that you'd get now, except that there isn't a reissue or it's too damn expensive?
Mine was a Moorish rifle, from PYRO, that my grandmother got for me for Christmas one year. Unfortunately, half of it was missing (she didn't know), and I went to exchange it, but they didn't have any more. Can't remember what I exchanged it for, but I still regret losing out on it.

Mine was the 1/48 scale Vulcan bomber produced by Aeroclub (aka John Adams). Had seen it in Rosemont Hobbies while on a biz trip to California, balked at the price tag and the size (getting it on the plane back seemed a problem...idiot, could have mailed it!) so thought I'd wait until I got back to the east coast. With *only 200* ever made, that was a big mistake. I finally managed to eBay my way to one a few years ago... at 2.5 times the price, but I still feel d**n lucky to have it! It is a beautiful example of a state of the art vac multi-media kit and I only hope I can do it justice.
Cheers!

I'm terrible with names and sequence numbers but when I was a kid they had not yet admitted to having the stealth planes. I was in our town's little grocery store and on the 4 foot section that was toys, there was a model kit claiming to be the not yet revealed stealth bomber with correct interior cabin displays and parts. Several months later the government revealed the stealth bomber and it was the exact same plane. I have never seen that kit since. That plane yes, but not that kit with the "never before seen" wording all over it.

Too many to count:( It's always the same "real-life-stuff" that got in the way:devil: You put money aside for a model and a few months later, something happens (roof/car/kitchen/heating system had to be repaired...ah the beautiful things you have to do as a homeowner )
The only model I bought at the time was the $3000 MF. That was the big spending that my wife brings, from time to time, in our conversations:(

MR MF was not $3000, not retail. Less than $2000, then it was even at a sale price for a while (although I don't know what shipping might have been for where you live). Now, since we brought that up, it is definitely the thing I missed out on. I had the money when it was available, but absolutely no space to put it. Even worse that I would have wanted to keep it in a crate until I had the right place to display it. Then I got a house, but Suddenly, having the room and a house payment, I couldn't even dream about paying ebay prices. And I'm assuming there was a time where the ebay price crossed the $3000 threashold, but it was probably a blink on it's way to $5,000 or $10,000.

Maybe that $2000 was U.S. price, but here, in Canada, everything is usually double the price...so yes, with the whole thing it was $3000 CDN funds.:( The size of the box was almost as big as a fridge! Well packaged for sure...

Moebius Interstellar Ranger

I had it on my watch lists for so long and it was fairly cheap, at times even below MSRP (around $35 I believe), but then all of a sudden prices just skyrocketed into the ridiculous range (like 150 to 300 dollar range). Love the ship but paying several hundred dollars for a 1/72 scale model with some soft details is just not worth it

Maybe someday it will pop up again at a reasonable price

This exactly! I even worked on the damn movie as a model maker. I wish I would have bought one when I had the chance. I keep hoping they reissue them because I'm not paying $300 bucks for one. I've got other models to buy for my studio scale builds. Haha.

Did you work on the one that is currently on display at the Warner Brothers studio tour?

Yeah I worked on all the models. Do they still have a Lander and a Ranger on display?

Very cool, They are great models/props

Not sure if they are still there today, but I was there back on March 2018

They had stuff the Nebuchadnezzar and other things from Matrix as well as the Blade Runner Blimp

It was hard to get good shots of the ship, but a little easier to get the lander

I have seen paper models of it offered online; I just might try doing one using the templates in plastic just to see if it can be done.
