Haha, yeah, seconded!

Re: So I have just one question... (Avatar related)

The "Wasp" eh... looks like a revolver. Full on clam shell with the cylinder protruding. Trigger guard either covered or replaced. A PKD inspired upper add on and an under barrel thingie.

Looks like one of poseidons Manga inspired guns. Even has the kind of engraving they like to do. Honestly give a guy a CNC engraver and he thinks he's Michelangelo...:p

Here's to hoping it's a python, I got a history with those yeno... LOL

You da MAN, lol! :D

Looks like it's also got a Webley/Samaritan type top break - probably for loading some MASSIVE cartridge, no doubt! :love

I pulled this screen shot off Quaritch's Profile reel from the official interactive trailer:

Aside from the fact that the action figure is wearing the gun backward, if you ask me, the holster design is quite silly: if the strap accidentally unsnaps while climbing into or out of your AMP suit, what's to prevent the gun from tipping & falling out? :confused Looks like you need both hands to secure & release it... :unsure Not very quick-draw friendly, to say the least! :thumbsdown

I've renamed this thread the Official Avatar Colonel Miles Quaritch Pistol Research Thread. :D

Also from the interactive trailer, this time from the Grace Augustine profile reel:

It seems to fire regular cased rounds. I read in the Pandora Wiki site that all energy weapons and advanced vehicles malfunction in the intense EMF fields on Pandora, so RDA had to resort to outdated or even obsolete vehicles & weaponry that were less susceptible to EMF disruptions.

So Matsuo's initial impression may be right - this could be based on a found revolver. The question then becomes: which model? Let's start taking educated guesses, shall we?

I vote for the Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special! :D

Good guess, but as you can see in the top photo, the cylinder grooves taper off and scallop toward the rear. Also, the break pivot point is further away from the leading edge of the cylinder than in the Rex.

Are there any other modern top-breaking revolvers out there?

Re: The Official Avatar Colonel Miles Quaritch Pistol Research Thread

Search for the clip "Not in Kansas anymore" (available in 1080p f.e. from davestrailerpage.co.uk). From the eigths second on Quaritch walks by with a 2.5 second long close-up on his gun sitting in the holster. It's not much but I hope that helps you a little.

VIDEO OF JAMES CAMERON FIRING WASP!!!

http://surrealaward.com/avatar/videobroll04.shtml

As the screen caps show, this sick little puppy KICKS! :love

3607371.jpeg

In this clip, Cameron fires 6 shots - standard revolver capacity! In the film (which I haven't seen yet), Quaritch goes after Jake with it and Jake fires back with a semi-auto sporting a top-facing ejector port (like a Glock). I'll be counting the shots to see if the movie suffers from PRF (Perpetually Replenishing Firearm) Syndrome... :D

Enjoy!

What Matsuo said about the Poseidon guns is kind of interesting, because the revolver here has some features of another top-break revolver on thier site. What's interesting, is that it looks like there's a seperate piece added to the cylinder to elongate it, which is just like how one of thiers works.

The grip is even similar.

I don't know what the base of that pistol is but I really like the overall design. I would love to have one. In the mean time I will be looking for a MP412 Rex for my own real pistol collection.

It appears that the part directly in front of the cylinder remains static while the cylinder rotates. Highlighted portion.

The cylinder cuts scoop upward at the rear and are not perfect circles, Colt, S&W, Dan wesson and Rugers have this but the 'point' seems pretty pronounced.
