The Muppet Movie

Just Saw it at the EL Capitan Theater in Los Angeles. Loved it. I couldnt stop laughing. If any-one is located in the los angeles area, I recommend seeing it at the El Capitan. Before each show is a sing along with Kermit and Miss Piggy...Great to see those puppets on stage....and downstairs are movie props from the film...

Just got back, great fun! I took the whole family -- still singing manamana!
The audience was awesome too, everyone sang along with the rainbow connection song!

Animal DID go nuts..albeit a brief 10 second bit.

Took the kids today too. They both know the Muppet Show well so this was right up their alley. My 5 year old loved it and I could have easily cried in some parts ( I was about his age when I saw the Muppet Movie in theaters so seeing this with my boys meant a lot to me).

Mad props to the producers for a couple of instances of Jim Henson's picture being seen. His spirit lives on!

My only gripe (not really a spoiler) is the repeated shots of the huge Cars2 posters on the street. Yes Disney..we know you own the Muppets now and can use them to advertise your wares. Sheesh!

Anyone else notice the fireworks that looked EXACTLY like a certain Disney mouse?! Come on Disney...step back and let the Muppets shine without your labels!

Disney can't do that. It's against their policies i think lol. I'm glad they finally did something right with the property after so long. I doubt Henson would be thrilled his family sold the muppets to Disney though. His family dropped the ball with Labyrinth too when they gave out the rights for a japanese comic sequel.

Any pics of the props at the EL Capitan?

By the way kudos to Brett Mckenzie, some of those songs are true Concord songs, I'm a Muppet of a Man" and "Me Party" are great.

Wow, that sounds incredible. Wish my audience had done that!

Yeah it was awesome. It started quietly in a few places in the theater then the whole crowd joined in. I think the kids were a little confused since, I'm guessing, most of them hadn't seen the original like the adults. It gave me goose bumps.

I think he was actually trying to work out some deal with Disney before he died, it fell through afterwards.

Finally got to see this yesterday. Kind of funny that the first time the Mrs and I got out of the house since the baby came, we went to a kids movie.

Overall I liked it very much. I could have done without the Chris Cooper rap. That was just terrible. The rest was pretty good. I still get all goofy when I hear the Rainbow Connection. I still can't see why they don't start the Muppet Show up again. It would be fantastic.

My only wish for an otherwise perfect movie was...

(Not sure if this is really a spoiler or not so...)

I really wish it was Steve Martin hosting instead of Jack Black. Dunno, it just seemed "right" to me to have Steve host the telethon...or even have a cameo in the movie.

I was expecting him as well.

I liked the rap. It was a way for his character to squeeze in a "song" while staying in character of not able to laugh or show any inflection of emotions except being mean.

Plus I've been playing Muppets Tap Tap on my iPhone a lot lately and played that song a few times. It grows on you.

I absolutely loved this movie. The Chris Copper Rap was so out of nowhere that it was hilarious. There were so many moments in this film that made me laugh, smile, or even tear up a bit. It was very emotional. I have never been able to see a Muppet film in theaters and I am very glad that this is the one I got to see. This is my third favorite muppet film now. The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper and then The Muppets.

Any pics of the props at the EL Capitan?t.

Here are a few...Sorry for the quality. I was using my cell phone

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie

Best part #1: Beaker w/ an Axe.
BP #2: Walter looks in the mirror. (celebrity cameo)

but it did have several major flaws.

1) Better than the Animal drum solo would have been a proper tag with Animal telling the audience to "GO HOME!! GO HOME!!". ala original TMM.

2) Needed an original Kermit/Piggy love song. Never Before, Love Led Us Here, Bless Us All.

3) Not stealing the plot from the recent awful and uber-cheezy Muppet Christmas Special "We need to pay the mortgage before midnight" Sheesh!
At least have 100 or so stars turn up last minute for 30 second cameos. Neil Patrick Harris asked the question the entire audience asked. Why didn't HE host the telethon?

4) Walter's endless introspective navel gazing & soul searching to discover his unique talent leads him to discover (SPOILER ALERT) He can Whistle!?!

I mean if it at least had some bearing on the outcome of the frikin telethon or anything at all to do with the plot. You know how sometimes whole movies are made around the fact that the FX guy figured out how to do something really cool? Well apparently this time the trick was getting a puppet to purse his lips.

I swear I didn't see anything in the film that would lead you to saying, "Oh, I get it" when he broke out into that tune at the end. My wife said he was whistling in the movie but even still, I can't recall a single scene or reference to him being skilled in that regard, so that scene hit me out of left field as well...
