Yea, the target audience is folks looking for entertainment. I feel like they're trying to lean into the fact that making a movie is often a bizarre and comical affair; that any movie ever really gets made within the film industry, let alone is enjoyable, is a ludicrous fact all on it's own. so them throwing bad one liners and stuff in is fine by me.
I suspect they also found out that many many of the folks they can get for the show from behind the cameras, are not the best interviewers; being on camera like that is not their happy place or their realm of expertise. this format allows for any of their awkwardness to feel like part of the show, rather than just them being uncomfortable in an interview. I feel like it was a good choice overall.
