The Martian Space Suit

Wow, yes is anyone going to be anywhere near there? I would gladly contribute to any expenses as well.

Actually, TaskRabbit is available in LA. Think we could hire someone off the site to go in and take as many photos, and as much video as possible?

Also, if we can get some photos with a scale on them? Possible dimensions of the case it is in, then everything else could be extrapolated much more accurately.

Thanks you so much, I can finally have some real dimensions to work from, I have been working on my third version of the helmet. I have discovered over the years that it usually takes me about three tries before I can say I got it right. The dimensions of the head lights is what I am most interested in right now, it seems to be growing every time I revise it, I can't wait to see how close I am to the real size.

I live in Los Angeles! I'll go this weekend. The Arclight isn't usually too strict on photos/videos of the displays, so I'll get what I can of what's needed.
Awesome, can't wait. Even if someone hasn't said it is needed, take as many photos as possible. I would rather sort through 1000 photos than miss something in a dozen.

I know one thing I would be super interested in is lots of close ups of the armor pieces on the shoulders, elbows, etc. One from straight on, and then one directly from the side to get curve right.

Try taking surround images of the parts like helmet and chest plate + backpack. I want to try using the 123D Catch to convert them into a really accurate 3D model. I still think it's a shame they don't release the 3D models publicly but getting photos might be the next most accurate way.

Got some new reference:

That latest photo proves how impossible it is to get the right color without a pallet to compare to. Look at the orange right under both shoulders and you know what I mean.

Soulinertia, I'm curious what type of orange you use for your neoprene samples. I'm gonna have a little conversation with the guys at the diving suit workshop tomorrow, I'll keep you fellas updated with any valuable info they might provide.

Picture of a German astronaut. Very grainy.

Judging from those pics I'd say the gloves are most definitely 100% custom built from scratch. Interesting seeing the hollow helmet lights with that disc missing as well.

Also the arm computer is not present, makes me wonder what they used for the computer, if there was an actual prop computer ie android or raspberry pi or something similar, or if there was a chroma green insert, or both, depending on the scene.

Those are some really great photos. Definitely still need more of the smaller pieces.

There are lots of little plates that could be very interesting to see. Especially now that I see there is something hiding behind the belt next to the cobra buckle. I would also really like some detailed pics of the honeycomb stuff that is in a bunch of the armor pieces. I have still not been able to identify it.

Is it just me or does the 'black' part of the helmet look really blue? Does that seem intentional or just some sort of wear on it?
