Limited Run The Mandalorian Blaster, screen accurate (TWO LEFT before)

Another update in the build thread... and soon I should have a MAJOR update with lots of photos of printed parts. I have been working like crazy, every spare minute to get this done ASAP.

And... for those that wonder why I ask for a firm commitment on some runs... here's an example, even if there's still lots and lots to do. This blaster is being broken down into several parts, with keys and things to make it easy to build (like a commercial model kit would have) as well as prepping it for electronics. If I were just doing one of these for myself, I'd take a lot of shortcuts.

Cool that you're making this as a buildable kit as opposed to a solid thing like the prop, adding electronics and a working trigger is a lovely touch!

Not to worry, everyone that has declared committed interest IS on the list.... I've just forgotten to update the 1st post with the holiday craziness, working on the model and the beskar ingots! Apologies for any confusion and I'll update it soon.
 
1st post list updated with everyone that I think has noted commitment to getting one. Also updated the build thread. (About 90% done with it now, IF the current parts being printed as I write this turn out OK.)

Metal update:
I spoke with the foundry and they said it IS doable under certain conditions. I've been looking at the receiver parts while modeling with metal casting in mind and I do see a risk that some things might have to be sacrificed in a metal receiver- I don't know, for example, if it can be made thin enough to house electronics... and I'm not sure how fine-detail parts that make a moving trigger work and such will survive sand-casting. (It's a long thing to explain, but sand-cast parts need to have a 1 degree slope to make sure the sand releases from the master and that slops might be hard to add in certain areas, which runs the risk of fine details being filled-in with metal. And we would also have to do a fair bit of post-processing... sanding and polishing. And you would end up with a cast-metal surface finish, which is a lot "rougher" and less precise than a machined one. Granted, that matches the look of the screen pistol to some degree, so I'm still keeping it as an option. Will know more once I've shown the receiver parts to the foundry in early Jan. And of course.... I would not be surprised if casting the four receiver and grip frame parts would end up costing $500+ alone, not including the other parts needed... something to consider if you are dead set on a metal version.

At the moment, I'm ONLY planning definitely for a resin version! That's the #1 priority and what this thread is all about first and foremost. The metal receiver option is more of a "it would be really cool and I'll look into it" thing as it would probably double, or more, the cost estimates.

Also... I'm not promising (so please don't hold me to it), but I think that a couple parts (cleaning rod and slide "nub") will be real brass in the standard kit, with an option to get a "full brass" set from Sh*apeways. I did a quick check and it looks like they will want $130-150 to print the trigger, safety, ejector block and cleaning rod bracket directly in metal.

From the looks of it, I'll be able to start making these in the next week or two!
 
Been following your build thread and I have to commend you for the amazing work you're putting into this awesome kit. Please add me to your list. I'll be happy with a resin kit with aluminium barrel and brass cleaning rod at the very least.

Thanks, added. Small note though: the barrel might end up being copper or brass instead of aluminum. For one, it will add more weight, but it also depends on sourcing the correct dimension tubing, because it's not a size most places here have as standard. And the cleaning rod is still TBD if it'll be brass, because I need to see how making multiples will work out. But the barrel will def be metal, whatever happens.

Any type of metal tube/rod for the barrel will add integrity to the kit, so that's non-negotiable. ;)

As long as the casts are crisp and sharp, as your kits are renown for, it's all good with me sir.
 
Update time. Hope everyone isn't too bloated from all the holiday food!

Yesterday I went on a minor "tour" to buy supplies (screws, brass, tubing and other things) to cover those that have signed up so far. I got hold of some GREAT aluminum tube for the barrel... it's 2.5-3mm thick, used on boat coverings, and therefore stiff and heavy!

As I write this, what should be the final piece is printing after yet more tweaks. I might also have a fun surprise or two when I show off the final parts.

ALSO.... HEADS-UP:
Since I'm almost ready to show it off, this is also the LAST CALL for signing up and committing to the run "on faith" without having seen the final kit. For those that sign up AFTER the final parts are revealed, there will be some changes- the kit will cost more, might not have as many metal parts or something similar. It's still TBD but I want to reward those of you who signed up blindly going only on my past work.

If all goes to plan, I'll be able to start making these as early as next week, letting the printer run while I finish the first batch of metal Beskar ingots.

Still doing final tweaks... now on the 4th or 5th iteration of the safety lever, but that's the final piece. Should have a full reveal before the end of the year!

Also, I did a parts count... the kit will end up having almost 30 parts in total!
 
Added.

Here's what I've been tinkering with in between passes with the ingots. A moving safety lever that can function as power on/off if you add a common slide switch with whatever electronics board you go for!



The video shows an earlier version... I've made a final once since that fastens better and moves more smoothly. It's a bit fiddly to get working, with small parts and all, and should be seen as a "bonus" since it wasn't in the original specs, but I'm happy that I got it in there for those that might want to add electronics.

I'll have some more info on it in the build thread shortly.
