The Lassiter, pre Firefly.

I was over at the Internet Movie Firearms Data Base, and they posted photos of two unknown energy weapons, a pistol, and a rifle from the first season "SeaQuest" episode, "Abalon". I don't know if the rifle has ever been in another production, but the pistol is better know as the Lassiter. It seems that prop has been around a while.

Nice find, it's cool to see it in other shows.

Oh, haha, I thought those we're rings on his fingers, rather than the loops in the grip.

Can't wait to start on mine. Have the grip and waiting for the flashlight to arrive. The firing up Ol' Rhino3D to design the addon pieces and have them cut/cnc-ed

What a great reference site. I had no idea that existed. Thanks for sharing!

I have the handgrip to the Lassiter. Just had the toy shipped over to me from the UK. The grip can be completely removed from the toy and if I think people might want one I'll run a cast of it. It would take me some time, it's been years since I've ran a cast.

I was just about to ask if anyone was doing a run of the grips.

Would it be weird to do a run of the flashlight too?

AFAIK, the original toy raygun is still available for around $10 here: http://www.esnarf.com/4886k.htm

I've owned two First Alerts, and it would be complicated piece to recreate. If it could be cast hollow maye. Solid resin would be expensive & very heavy. The flash unit also swivels on the body, which would be difficult to repicate.

Think I'm still the only one to complete a replica of the Lasseter so far :angel

Birdie,
it would be very easy to replicate the moveable part of the item. Just do it in multiple molds as multiple parts.

I did consider it when I had the flashlights, but again, you would really need to be able to rotocast (I would have thought...) Trying to slush-mould it would be a nightmare.

The light section sits on a couple of fairly delicate spindles that project out of the main unit and lock into a mechanism inside the lamp. I don't think that would reproduce well in resin. Would certainly take more skill than I have, unfortunateley.
