The "I'm painting a Captain America Shield" thread

I think many of the threads you are referring to no longer exist. Particularly the 100% accurate shields or the engraved / recessed ones.
I can't seem to find them.. or else I'm just getting old too. hah

Sorry about that.
Seems the best have fallen by the wayside.
But they still contribute to the RPF and the ones to ask for help in your effort to produce the perfect shield.

FINALLY finished painting my Captain America Shield. I've probably stripped this thing down like 5 + times due to minor things like scratches, lint, etc

Finally got it perfect and couldn't be more happy with it

When the shield was stripped of paint, I used a green scotchbrite pad and rubbed it on the metal in a circular fashion to remove the small scratches

For the back side of the shield, I used Kryon Satin Finish. For the front, Testors Candy Apple Red and Transparent Blue with Testors Glosscoat Laquer

Also, the star was attached before the paint was applied. I noticed that getting the paint to get into the corners / sides of the star was a pain so what I did was take a blue sharpie and "trace" along the edges which helped alot

Used a red sharpie to color in the small spots where the paint didn't get to (mostly in the grove between the red and blue paint)

Thanks to everyone for their help! I love this thread

That looks absolutely stunning, man! When I picture a Shield for myself that is exactly what I have in mind! Great job! It looks like you went all out on this, even that case you have for it looks awesome! How are you gonna display it? Can we see more pictures of it?

Re: The "I'm painting a Captain America Shield" thread

Here are some shots of the case. I bought the shield second hand so not 100% sure who made it originally but I actually purchased it cause the case was so well done

For the paint stripper, I used the citrus based one mentioned earlier in this thread. Got it at home depot

The paint stripper was called Citristrip

Chris, was this one of your shields? You are the only one whom I knew did the inner ring design on your shield.

Got some requests for more pictures so here it is under different lighting as well as a close up to show the grooves

Not sure how to display it just yet. It's basically sitting in it's case for now

Wow. Looks amazing! Is this the spun aluminum or resin? How did you get the movie accurate backside?

No, that was a blank I made awhile back. Please note that Marvel has shut down junkyard threads that are even just blank shields, so niether I nor the RPF want any trouble with Marvel, so no more blank shield runs will be in the junkyard from me. I'm not sure why they have an issue with blank shields, but they do. I even sold some for paintball use and for people who were painting them all different color schemes, with nothing connected to Marvel or any marvel names or properties, but they still shut it down... not sure why. All I know is we don't want any problems with Marvel. :)

Wow. I do have to say that is an amazing Blank Shield Chris. I want no issues with Marvel also. Marvel is my friend. :)
