The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Post-release)

although it is quick, and it is only a head, I found it rather sock puppet looking. (then again, I'm not sure I want "Dragon Heart" kind of facial movement.)

But I have no doubt it will all turn out to be pretty spectacular when I sit down in the theater to view it.

Well, he has to talk, so they need to accommodate for that.

I got the impression that the "sneak peek" at Smaug was "censored". It's like all the color and detail was intentionally removed in order to give us only a vague impression of him rather than a full-on reveal. Sort of a "you ain't seen nothin' yet" thing.

That trailer was a blast. Even my wife and kid actually came into the room to watch, they don't normally care what I'm looking at online but couldn't resist this. Stuck around for two repeats, too. It's an empirically good trailer. :lol

teal and orange...

Don't care. Too pumped!

Really looking forward to this one even if they added characters.

Don't care. Too pumped!! :p

Love the rendition of Smaug. Has a nice Vertmithrax vibe going...

Amen/ditto/QFT etc. Also a giant Skeksis chamberlain. :lol He looks GREAT! And big.

Gag! Wash your mouth out with soap. :lol

Outstanding trailer; the only question I was left with was regarding the barrels/elves as was posted above. I'm now curious to see how all that plays out.

Can't wait for Dec 13th! :)

I'm pretty happy with how Smaug looks. The lips are meh but he has to talk, so I'll get over it. His nose and brow ridges look badass, and his chin spikes are very nice. Even with the color masking he still looks very red. I do think it's funny how the whole animation rides on top of the other footage with a slight outline.

Here is a good shot of Smaug with the contrast cranked up a bit to see more detail.

^ Thanks for the detailed pic! I enjoyed the Hobbit, and am thinking this one is going to have a much faster pace.

That was just completely priceless. My face is sore from smiling too much.

Man, being friends/significant others of those girls must be a rollercoaster. Intense folks!
"What did I just experience?" ....a movie trailer. :lol

So keen to see the movie now!! Here in Australia it's coming out on Boxing Day so not only am I abandoning my family and the post Christmas shenanigans but also dressing up as Kili and attempting to survive the middle-of-summer-heatwave in all that leather and fur for the premier in Aussie.

I think Smaug looks pretty good in the trailer, i've done work experience with the people who make all the giant mechanical beasts for shows like "walking with Dinosaurs" and the "How to train your Dragon" stage show. And the work that goes into them BEFORE they are digitally rendered in insanely complex. Can only hope that this much work goes into Smaug, but knowing the quality of detail that went into the LOTR movies, safe to say it will look pretty damn fine on the big screen. :)
