The Guyver *Completed*

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Reflective strip probably wouldn't work as well you'd need a direct light onto it to make it glow otherwise it'd just be a dull grey unless you can find a really metallic or mirrored surface one...

Potentially would work if you still had the small lights installed in the base of the blade/elbow area but if your wanting to avoid that entirely I think you might need another idea....

I'll have a look about see what I can find

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Looking really great! I like the swiss army arm blades idea best :p

Re: Guyver *WIP*

The movie Guyver's blades only glow when extending, the anime version's glowed all the time. I've always thought the glow looked a bit silly and took away from the costume personally.

Nice work with the blades though, really accurate. This suit is coming along a treat. Have you got any plans for lighting up the control medal?

Re: Guyver *WIP*

This is coming out amazing!!! Keep it coming.
Good job
Thanks!

I'm debating if I should make a MacGyver arm blade.... :lol

I have no plans.... the helmet is a really thick cast. Basically what you see is what you get.... sorry.

I decided to try to modify some stuff for wear and see how the overall fit was.
- I can't put my upper arms on by myself because I can reach across my man boobs.
- The opening for the knees are too angled so my knees go inward. I'm going to have to trim them because of the size.
- I have a bad magnet on the right chest piece so it pops off if I move...left one is fine with the same earth magnets and setup.
- When I put the lenses in, I left opening in the helmet so it wouldn't fog...still did. I think the helmet is too small for a fan but I might have to try.
- If any part of the caulking strips get rubbed the paint comes right off. I only put two coats of mod podge on it... guess I'll strip some off and recoat or just let it go and give it a worn look... :unsure
- I did paint the bottom of an easter egg and I was going to use that for parts above the belt but I didn't want to pop it off because of the lower abs.
- I need to form the butt.... it was sticking straight up.

So yeah.... I was not happy at all with the overall ability to wear it because of all of that.... kinda bummed. Lesson learned though... I should have tried to see how everything was going to line up and fit before I detailed and painted it. And I should have got a picture of the back.

Cheers!

We will just say that form outweighed function on this version Durkness. It is still awesome without a doubt!! This is still one the few threads I always follow and still think it outpaces many other builds by leaps and bounds. I am already using it to research foam techniques for future builds.

TOP NOTCH my friend.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Ah man thats all relatively minor stuff easily adjusted/fixed I wouldn't be too down trodden about it...

Minor setback is all! bit of trimming here re-coating there sealing here it'll be right as rain...

- I can't put my upper arms on by myself because I can reach across my man boobs.

That's totally standard with foam or really 99% of costumes mate, I can't get the biceps of my Iron man on because the chest blocks all my movement and to be slightly more general I actually don't think I can get ANY of my costumes on by myself they all require a team of highly trained engineers to assemble haha

Lantern is the worse I need like 4 people to strap and buckle me into that thing....

- The opening for the knees are too angled so my knees go inward. I'm going to have to trim them because of the size.

Trim & paint and thats easily solved.

- I have a bad magnet on the right chest piece so it pops off if I move...left one is fine with the same earth magnets and setup.

Is that because of the magnet is a dud or because the right peck plate isn't sitting properly on the chest so the connection isn't strong enough? Either way you can swap out the magnets/add more magnets or just trim the peck a bit to make it a stronger hold!

- When I put the lenses in, I left opening in the helmet so it wouldn't fog...still did. I think the helmet is too small for a fan but I might have to try.

I think you can actually get a spray stuff that stops fogging on lenses/glass never tried it though.. could be a possibility...

I had the same problem with my spawn cowl though the only way I could resolve it was to drill small holes in the mouth of the mask so the air was escaping and not just blowing up onto the lenses doesn't show unless you look REALLY closely at the mouth area might help...

Re: Guyver *WIP*

This looks great! Once those tubes are connected that will fill out the space around the neck. Then it will close to perfect.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

LordCaharin - I've learned a lot from this build. I see foam in such a different light with the ideas that came from it. Can't wait to see what stuff you come up with.

Nytefall - I think I'm just trying to rush through it too fast. Your on my fb... I have too many things that I try to tackle and I was hoping this was near being completed. Thanks for being positive. SPAWN!!!!

Alpha Proto - I have seen you post on a lot of thing on the rpf and your attention to detail is amazing! I got caught up in looking for the problems I forgot to complete my to do list. I'll be making those tomorrow....lol. I'm still debating on if I should buy gloves and paint them or make some....

Thanks everybody!

Yup! We all do it keep flicking from idea to idea and not finishing anything all of my costumes aren't 100% finished they all have something I didn't get around to because I got side tracked lol but this one is too cool not to finish darn you!!

How do you mean paint em? just put the design of the glove on as a 2D painted design? would make them a lot more practical but definitely won't look as good as you making them....

If the iron man gauntlets are anything to go by though your ability to hold stuff or touch and such pretty much go out the window with em on

Re: Guyver *WIP*

The suit is looking just as I had hoped.....perfect! :)

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having but that's just part of the journey. I have the same with my ironman suit, lack of movement due to a giant chest piece. I am sure you will be fine fixing the parts but I know how annoying it can be with foam as repairs show unless you can pull off hiding them in the design. That said its really starting to take shape now, love it.

Tom.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Thanks guys...My wife did get a couple with the good camera instead of the phone....

Look at your signature... I am a complete amateur. I this is only my second foam build.... you got this.
This is insane. Love it!
Thanks!
THAT LOOKS SOOO GOOD! Great skills that definitely pay off
I had to have some good music or I would have went insane with how long the detailing took.... :lol

As soon as I saw JFcustom working on this I had to make it. My friends didn't know what it was and after the past couple of days they have been looking up everything Guyver. It was a childhood hit for me as well!
