The Great Unknown Shield Quiz

Hi all,

We have just taken a huge delivery of shields in our London office - all of these have been used in film and television productions over the years. Some are clearly old and date as far back as the 40's and 50's.

We have a number that are as yet unidentified, so we thought it would be worth posting a few images here to see if anyone here recognized them. I'll list more as we go, assuming we are having some joy!

Bear in mind that these may have been repainted and redressed many times, so may not look today as they originally did on screen.

Prop Store vouchers await those successfully identified.

i guess i'll be downloading alot of medieval movies from the 40/50's to watch/scan trough for a few nights. maybe it will help.

yeah a couple do to me but can't nail it down. Excaliber , ladyhawke, but it think older really. I'm going to d/l some movies and just scan through. Would be fun since i'm not doing anything else constructive ...and any help from the propshop would be fun.

We appreciate the suggestions, we'll double check a coupler of those.

We have also checked Ivanhoe and the old BBC TV series Robin Hood, (the one that starred Richard Greene.)

I think the top one is from the origional Jason and the Arganouts.

Don't think I have ever seen a Viking kite shield, mainly used by Normans

Try Hereward the Wake (UK TV series) and maybe The Warlord w\ Heston for those kite shields.

Thats a really difficult question to answer, We will certainly weight the values of vouchers against the help received and items identified. We hope there are some treasures here but thought this more of a fun topic as we know how many pairs of eyes here can keep a look out through movies over the next few months.
