"The Football" Nuclear Breifcase

Hi there all,

I'm starting a bit of a strange project...not associated with any film in particular. I've always been interested in all things Military, and I have always been interested in the President of the United States...put these two things together and what do you get? - "The Football" The briefcase the President has with him everywhere he goes (carry around by a Military Officer)

Been doing a little bit of research into it on Wiki, and it said that it has four things in it:

1) Nuclear Launch Codes
2) Safe Places for the President to hideout
3) Satellite Communication Radio
4) Designated Targets and their effects.

Now obviously there won't be any pictures of these floating around on the internet, so I was wondering can anybody help me out with this in terms of what they would look like etc?

I need all the help I can get on this one guys! :lol

All the best,
nick B.

Um.... welcome aboard? :eek

Actually if you check out the Wiki page on "nuclear football", they have a bit more info about it and what is purported to be a photo of it. The photo just shows a big leather satchel.

The description says it's a metal Zero Halliburton case with the leather satchel over it.

Thanks! Yeah, I was thinking as I was going to display it open, I have an existing large steel breifcase, so perhaps I can get a leather "jacket" made for it somewhere? I need a lot of help with the actual contents though!

Thanks for the welcome by the way! :lol

Because of your newbie status, heraldic forum avatar, and unusual interest in top secret classified US affairs, I naturally assumed you were a foreign agent up to no good spy stuff. :sleep

:lol haha, well I give you my word as a good man that I like the US, so I wouldn't be doing naughty spy things :lol I do live in the UK though!

Well, this thread has just made for a file on someones desk!

I picture a knock at his door any moment...

I mean, damn! Is this even prop related?? :confused

:lol I hope the police won't come breaking in any time soon :lol

In answer to your question... You could say this is prop related, for example it was featured in the film "Air Force One" :angel

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

It's featured toward the start of the 2nd Act. You never see the contents or anything, just the case. At least, if I recall right.

So... technically... :$

Yeah, yeah, I stand corrected.

Just trying add a little levity for our guests.

Yeah, you only see it for about 2 seconds when the Officer carrying it is shot and collapses...and when the Vice-Presidential Aide brings the new codes to the white house situation room (as the pervious one's had to be cancelled)

In any case...I'm trying to put together a display of it open with some official-looking things inside. So genuine serious help needed folks!

Well, some high-end-looking binders or folders with the seal of the president or the Air Force would seem logical...

So might something related to the Joint Chiefs and / or the DOD.

The FAS might have some info on the 'football'.

Attached is an older-style 'Top Secret' coversheet I made some years ago, and a GIF I found of what may be real, and more modern, classified information coversheets.

It would be awesome though if the actual football just has a yellow legal pad from the drug store with some codes scrawled on it in Sharpie. :lol
