My very first prop was a Light Saber made from a chrome flashlight. Dad was a avid modeler and he helped me glue on the "T" shaped grips. It was ugly... it didn't work (rusted on the inside) but it was SO cool!
I think when I was 6 or 7 my first props that I'd ever made (over and over again) were Space Ghost's energy bands. The construction paper and marker build would not often last more than two or three missions.
Kyle Katarns first lightsaber from the Jedi Knight game. 13 years old when I machined it after hassling the machine shop teacher in my high school. Still have it sitting on my desk and kept it with quite often. Actually managed to have a teacher fired for trying to take it away from me on May the 4th.
If I recall correctly, the first real prop I made was Thror's map. I'm pretty proud of
it: All done by hand and fairly accurate. It's hanging in the living room right now, but might add it to my detolf I plan to get soon.
Not 100% sure if this was the first but it's from the year I started making prop replicas for the simple reason I couldn't afford the real deal at that time. :lol
It's entirely made of wood. The snake head was my first real carving.
I still own it. (even now I own a few metal versions of this sword)
One of the first props I made was a freddy glove. It was back in 1986. I was in high school and I can remember taking it around to all my classes and it caused quite a ruckus, you have to remember back then the movie was still new and there were no replica props out on the market like this.
The first prop I ever made was an awful RotJ Luke lightsaber. I made it from a broom handle, and colored adhesive vinyl. I made it in the 90s, when I was about 10 years old. There are no photos, and the prop has since been lost/destroyed.
I am that kid that can't even color inside the lines with crayons... so my first prop~ish thing was a big plush mallet.
Does that even count as a thing if its nothing more than a glorified pillow built around a plastic bottle?
Man I wish I had pictures of the first Vader costume I made in 1995. The bodysuit was a mess but the chest box and belt boxes were pretty good. Lit with LEDs and everything! The boxes were just little plastic bins from Target that could be hooked together, with rocker buttons made from Super Sculpey and styrene tube for the rod details! I still have the Don Post mask but threw everything else away long ago.
In 1978 I made a commlock from Space:1999 out of balsa wood. Sad by my current standards, but one cool feature on it was I salvaged buttons (and springs) from a dead calculator, and so the buttons on the face of the prop actually are "functional".
Here is the 1978 version on the left. It sits next to the one I made in 2012 for the Alphacon convention in Burbank
The first prop I can remember ever making was when I was 9...Star Wars had just come out, and I made a light saber out of a stick wrapped in aluminum foil. *lol* Eventually Kenner did put out a light saber toy, basically a flashlight with a plastic tube attached..but I had to get one.
First was almost certainly an eyepiece/headband as seen in the game Missionforce Cyberstorm in the '90s. Cardboard and plastic from some sort of packaging. I was so jazzed about it but I remember hearing my then-best friend making fun of it a few weeks later when he thought he was out of earshot. I didn't (don't) have much luck with friends.
Next was probably not really a prop, but was supposed to be a very nice screen accurate Voyager after it crashed on the ice planet. Was going to wire it with intermittent lighting and stuff to make it look like it was dying. It's still in a box somewhere, as are the decals I made for the project. The diorama was intended for a PC case mod that I decided not to do.
My first prop was the bandit mask from Borderlands (my version of the mask anyways) It was a learning process but I have made a few more updated versions since then as well as his classic buzzsaw weapon. Had a blast and was really happy with the results.
The first prop I ever made was a lightsaber made from a paper towel roll and Construction paper. I had to be all of 10 years old! I started out making props young!
The first prop i tinkered with was a nerf Gun that i aged (i wont bore you with that one but the models love it). I suppose it would be this, i keep playing around with it, kinda looks good in certain shots, was supposed to be a steam/cyberpunk thing
