The First Prop you ever made.

Not sure if this counts, but my brother and I made a X-wing, A-wing, and multiple speeder bikes out of cardboard when I was in 2nd grade. The speeder bikes where incredible accurate for cardboard. Where are those pictures...

Hello everyone!

Hope I`m not derailing this thread, since the first(and, currently, last) prop I`ve made so far was for a Warhammer fantasy LARPG here in Russia.

Me and my friends Eugene and Semyon( the stress in his name is on the 'o') decided to make a couple Black Orc outfits(body, armour and some misc bits).

At one point (about two days before the game) we decided that to complete the look we needed some sculls(to impale those on spikes on armour and the like).

Wanted to buy those, but found them quite expensive, so I decided to try my hand at slush casting(I didn`t even know the term then).

This was my first try at everything - prepping the master model(a plastic scull which I borrowed from a friend), making a silicone mold, and pouring plastic and I only had two days to either make something or screw up royally >_<.
A quick and dirty job, but it served its purpose.

So here are some pics:
the master before it was worked a little bit - the lower jaw was removed, the scull dome was glued in place, the seam filled with plasticine, and some more plasticine was added to eliminate locks. The idea was to make a one-piece silicone mold.

The mold. Yeah, it is ugly as hell...

Then I made an alebaster shell for it

To the right is the first pull. You can notice the seam line around the scull - and here I thought that I made it even :)

Some detail photos(sorry for poor quality - a phone camera\shaky hands combo, alas):

As I`ve said - a quick and dirty job... Those were hit with a propane torch after that - to yellow them a bit, and put onto Eugene`s and Semyon`s suits:

I hope to make something better next time...

The costumes rock. so hard. long time warhammer geek. ork fan's unite!!! waaaaagh!

First prop I ever made was an under-the-shirt Arc Reactor out of a cardboard cutout and a tap light. Worked good enough but was too small. Still working towards an accurate MK I reactor.

Waaaaagh!! We da orcs!
I`ll be starting a build thread for the BlackOrc MK II in a couple of weeks)) Gonna make it bigger, meaner and out of plastic, cause the current version is damn heavy( it`s mostly 1 mm mild steel).

By the way, there`s a vid of several guys and girls from our greenskin team(the St. Petersburg part of it), wearing mostly their first ever self-made props(armour\suits\masks\gloves) : greenskin's tea party - YouTube
Our captain`s name is Alexander Merbashwili aka BlackSandro. He`s the orc in this vid.

I thought I lost it, but I finally got it back, my home made Freddy Krueger Glove!! I was 14 when I made this, so it goes way back, the sentimental value of this thing is priceless :lol

The leather is a bit hardened and the knives a bit rusty, but it still fits me like a glove:) (although I have to squeeze a little...)

First prop I ever built was a pair of paper mache loaves of french bread for a "sword" fighting scene in a play (long story).

HOWEVER, the first real prop I ever built was a hardware saber built from my own designs in 1997. It's mostly plumbing I cut, shaped, and bonded together with tools at a gas station I was working at at the time, after the mechanics had gone home. The grip is an aftermarket motorcycle handle that I bought at a Harley Davidson dealership, and ribbing toward the top is a cut up bicycle shock absorber cover. The control box is a 10 segment LED that the prequel sabers ended up using 2 years later.

I worked at a datacentre, so my replica of this sat on the windowsill by the customer entrance:

Quite a few people 'got it'.
Sadly, it succombed to the sheer bloody-minded persistance and determination of one particular shift to destroy it. A box, an LED, a battery and some wire; and my professional communications engineer colleagues stopped it working. Very reassuring.

Thanks Fuzz! I just got out of THE THING (Took a long lunch and saw the first screening i could - Im a diehard THING fan) and I really enjoyed it a lot!

Kind of kicked me into gear to do a 2.0 version of the Palmer Blood Monster!!!

Wow, so many cool 1st time build here!

Here is my 1st build. An E-11 that was fabricated from PVC, wood, welding steel and some misc. odds & ends. Took me about a year to complete but was well worth the learning experience. I stage it with my Gentle Giants stormtrooper...
