The Falcon & Winter Soldier (tv series)

Eh. It’s fine. Still suffering the same problems the other D+ shows, and I’m totally exhausted with CGI heavy “action scenes”. But the slower character moments were good. A little claustrophobic with the tight shots and super shallow depth-of-field, but the scenes were good. I still hate the D+ weekly release format.
 
Sam said "the S-word" once that I caught...

I, personally, love how much more dynamic his wings are over his original military-issue set in Winter Soldier. Gotta love that Stark tech. Also, Sam's speech at the Smithsonian set the timeline. This is post WandaVision.

As for the bit at the end... I don't know what direction they're going to go here -- will he live and become USAgent? Or is he gon' die, and soon?

This show raises a good point -- how has being blipped affected people's credit, how many hoops are they having to jump through to prove they're not dead? Et cetera.

Yeah, but that's hardly the first time '****' has been said in the MCU. Remember when Cap chided Tony with "language"?

I went back and watched the episode with an eye toward the language. I counted 1 instance of 'ass' and 2 of '****'.

From a writing standpoint, the introduction of the other Captain America at the end creates an incentive for someone to displace him. And I think it's interesting they are also tackling Bucky's moral redemption in this show. It's making me think strongly that Bucky will take up the shield as Captain America in the end.

"I am no longer the Winter Soldier. I am James Buchanan Barnes." Then what's left for him, if not the being the Winter Soldier?

I really hope it’s not Bucky. He can atone for his past. He can regret his past. He can make amends for his past.

But he can’t erase his past. He can’t undo the things he did.

To me, personally, that makes him unfit to carry the shield.

Couple that with the fact that Sam is just...so much more likable. Bucky’s character has seen such little development that we know next to nothing about him as a person. Obviously this show seems like it will be addressing that, but unless they kind of leave Sam on the back burner and heavily focus on Bucky, I just don’t see any way Bucky becomes the “better” choice to carry that shield.

I am 100% Team Falcon on this one. To me, even though he has been in the comics, Bucky is a HORRIBLE choice to be Cap.

I think it is doable if the redemption is profound enough.
 
Why is Sam a better choice for the shield than Bucky? How many people has Sam killed? For that matter how many people has captain America killed? Just because we call them enemies that makes it OK?

I have a feeling that, on some level, it's all for the American propaganda machine.

"We need a new Captain America" translates, to me, to "we need a new poster boy to make the American public see our perpetual wars as justifiable and to boost their wartime morale."

Basically, the old guy retired. We need a new face to stick on the posters.

This is exactly one of the major plot points of the time Bucky was Cap in the comics and ultimately why he quit being Cap, if I remember correctly. It’s one of the things that made those stories so good.

As for Sam trying to get a loan, obviously they have to pay these guys some kind of stipend, even if it just came from Tony, which I could see him doing towards the end. He makes a comment about having govt. contracts, so is his money just under the radar so it doesn't show up for credit purposes?

I think it was more a statement about how bankers are just d*cks. Like, "yeah we know you're a war hero and we love you, but screw you."

Tony provided them with gear, a place to live, and probably all the food, clothing and entertainment they could want. Plus, Sam mentioned, "a certain amount of goodwill," so people happily gave them things or paid for them because they were heroes. They didn't really need to get paid.

As for the government contracts, this show takes place 6 months after Endgame, so he's got maybe 4 or 5 months worth of government contracts on record. Most banks in real life won't give you a loan with that little income history, let alone after a universe changing event, where, like the banker said, "things tightened up."
