The Dejarik Project (Table Finished)

Re: The Dejarik Project

Yes, I do plan on offering kits & finished tables. I will need to finish one, and improve some of my processes before I can get a clear idea of cost

Re: The Dejarik Project

This just keeps going further down the rabbit hole.
Fantastic.

Re: The Dejarik Project

I had some prototype AR game pieces laser cut. I've assembled a few and I think they look pretty slick!

I had an awesome time presenting at the Barnes & Noble Mini Maker Faire this past weekend. It was a lot of fun to show it off in public and watch people play the game.

Here is a video overview of its functionality. Sorry about the cell phone quality, I'm hoping to shoot some better video later, but I was anxious to share it with you all.

More to come. Thanks for following!

I can't even begin to express how awesome this is.
You have come up with such an awesome way to recreate a fictional and "impossible" game and I applaud you for it.

I'm just spitballing here, but in regards to the Chips you are using for Augmented reality, what if you end up not only animating the creatures, but building the rules of the game into the A.R. display so that instead of manually moving chips, you could just use the entire board as the marker?!? You could then effectively just play the game exactly like it is in the movie (while looking through the AR device) by pushing the buttons and have the program move the hologram pieces and attack. I'm sure you're already way ahead of me and I have no idea how to do that, it just seems that if you've already come this far, the technology is already there to get it that one last step to a perfect recreation.

This is just amazing!

Holy crap! That table is amazing. I have been following but the work you have put into this is absurd and I love it.

Re: The Dejarik Project

I also toyed around with the augmented reality idea. At first I thought Starrfox1's idea was completely undo-able and out of my league, but 3D scanning and AR have been getting much more accessible lately and with enough time I think I might actually be able to make something work very well. The idea was most appealing because the movie scale of the holomosters makes playing the game a bit cramped, and some of my monsters are a bit fragile which isn't too practical for playing the game. I have a bit of a programming background as I am a web-application developer by trade, and I've tinkered with some (certainly amateur) phone applications. I'm thinking of using Unity3D, Vuforia and a VR headset (likely start with Google Cardboard) to make this a reality. How cool would it be to be able to pick up and move actual holographic 3D models around the table in virtual reality?!

Dude, you are a GOD. I had all but forgotten about this but I'm so happy you were able to pull off the concept, this is EXACTLY what I was picturing. Bravo, well done, completely amazeballs. :cool

Remarkable achievement. This is just the beginning I'm sure. Honored to be here watching at this phase.
Can't wait to see what offerings there may be.

My father helped me create this beautiful box to store my monster sculpts so that we can take them on the road. It also doubles as a playing surface so you can play the game the old fashioned way.

You're in Washington? I'd love to meet you sometime and play a few games (I live in Portland OR), shoot me a PM if you're down! Again, wonderful craftsmanship and impeccable execution of concept. You must be very proud :)

That is something really incredible for sure. That's one amazing job! You should definitely be proud, this thing is a work of art in more ways than one.

...So, when are you going to make me one? :p
