The Definitive CW Arrow Thread

So, bow aside (which is looking brilliant,) does anyone know where to find the fabric or similar fabric for the suit? I've looked just about everywhere and cannot find matching material.

IMPORTANT:

Note the stretchable fabric around the shoulders of the jacket and the undersides of the arms.

I am going to be adding these to my own jacket immediately, because they are absolutely the source of all his powers.

Or at least, why he can reach back to draw arrows easily in a tight fitting jacket.

Yeah its quite a number of details I have noted to go to my guy. I'll have a breakdown after its all done :)

My friend, if you pull off a screen accurate suit made to measurements for under $500, count me in for the first possible slot.

What are your thoughts on the hood-to-jacket attachment?

A velcro strip on either side of the zipper sorted it for me.

Nice man could you tell me where you purchased the straps on the sides as well as the front

If your talking to me. They were a quick easy free find. We have this long strap we use with our truck to tie stuff down. I cut a few pieces off of it. I have seen the same stuff at Joann's fabric store as well. They are basically nylon webbing. Probably around 1in wide. Hope this helps!

I've just started work on my one, I've got 4 months to do it. I drew up all the parts & laser cut them with a birch plywood core, balsa exterior (for shaping), then going to rout the edges, shape the curves with a drum sander and then fibreglass the whole thing before priming and painting. Going to take lots of pictures and i might do like a how-to thread or something.

Do you have the size of the bow parts? I'd love to make one of these and make it shoot! Wish I had the money to buy one but 2000$ is a little much!

Actually, it only cost $1400 for the real one. You might be able to get one less at ebay or have a propmaker make one for you for alot less. I know one. Just pm me.

Due to economies of scale and shocking postage costs to the UK. I have ordered double the amount of parts for se01 bow. Thus recouping funds, reusing remaining tape, hex nuts etc and making a little on top. Still undecided as to whether or not to sell as a kit or a finished product. But I'll post pics when complete of my bow.

Actually just about every seam on the jacket and pants is two pieces of raw edged leather sewn together with thin strips of spandex. similar to the backs of the knees, just all over, including the collar, shoulder seams, side seams, back seams, etc if you look closely. Pretty sure none of the seams were folded at all. This can be seen in the hi-res pics from 2012 and it's still the case as I've examined two of the suits in person.

It gives quite a bit as I was able to squeeze into it and I'm a hefty right now at 5'10" and a little over 200. It looks like a pretty tiny jacket in the flesh. It wasn't that big on my thirteen year old who is 5'6" and around 105, except in the shoulders where it was too wide. Not saying Amell is small by any means, just that he's in good shape and it's meant to fit skin tight. Just shows how expandable it is that it could nearly fit that range.

Oh, and the braces are of the type that don't have elastic at the bottom back. They're of the same fabric as the front straps. I don't really think that's a big deal but it is the definitive thread. It may make a difference if you attach them as the screen braces are attached as the fabric is sewn around a green leather strip attached to the pants. The black leather tabs and hardware are removed so they aren't adjustable. I'll try and find out the brand. Whatever they were, they were convertible, tabs and clips. Saw a set laying next to a pair of pants in progress.

There's probably a pic somewhere but I haven't rewatched the first season since I visited the manufacturer but I'll throw in that there's nineteen downward pointing chevrons, like the knee and cuff, running the entire center back, from about three inches from the collar to the split waist of the jacket. Didn't know if they've been adding that detail to the replicas.

One last thing, the "repair" under the left jacket pocket of the display suit continues on the suits made now. I had never noticed it and when I asked about it, they said it was just visual interest and that it's supposed to be the same suit through the series so it stays around.

Any questions about the suits, just ask and if I can remember I'll answer. Pics were kind of off limits. They did let me take pics of my two sons wearing the jacket but no details to speak of other than what was in those.

From that description, I am picturing something like this:

I ask because this image looks to be only 1 piece of leather.

Rolling off that, is the jacket lined at all? Or just raw leather and stretch fabric? The above picture looks like there might be a mesh in key areas, but it does not look like a typical jacket lining. Same with the pants, any lining?

It gives quite a bit

Would you say it was spandex or more of a stretch knit?

This is great info! It was difficult to tell if the bottom back was the same material or elastic from the grainy behind the scenes pictures I was going on. I'll be sure to revise my post with the correct, or more accurate information if we can't get the exact brand.

More great info! Any chance you know about what's happening under the hood on the front? Particularly with the diamond stitching? I've heard the hood is attached to the front of the jacket with a lot of Velcro. Here's a shot of the back chevrons:

I know some people are leery of posting pictures of their kids online, but would you mind posting these? If anything they could be a good reference for color.

I was wondering if it would work if I just bought a leather jacket, then took it apart, stitched spandex to it then sewed it back up.

Im not sure if this is a good or bad idea?
