The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - Finished pics page 3

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

This is looking absolutely beautiful. I really love your wood grain technique and I get what you did to achieve texture to the suit. Such a great idea.

Thank you and I am humbled by the positive reception of my work!

I'm nearly finished with this kit and it's already one of my top-shelf masterpieces and an incredible amount of fun to work on - I'm sad to have the journey end.

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

that texture technique also happens if you are like me and realize too late that the spray can is empty and spritzes all over lol.

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

It's amazing the life you bring to these models. Your paint work, and weathering is just awesome. This is really interesting to follow...... And I see you were watching My Cousin Vinnie to help you while you work lol

Haha! I was waiting for someone to notice! Good eye!
I'm pretty useless in art sessions unless I have a movie playing in the background. Seriously...I literally get a mild anxiety attack unless I pop a video in.
I loathe working in silence!

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

...One thing I wanted to remedy was the complete lack of surface texture on his suit.
I did't want a smooth texture, so I used a little trick I discovered by accident:
After a first coat of primer, I hold the primer can a full arms length away a let out short bursts of mist onto the piece.
What happens here, is the paint particles begin to dry before making contact with the model.
This gives the surface of the model a fine-grain texture that is perfect for sumulating a heavy wool fabric...
I've used this same technique a number of times, also "discovered by accident". Done properly, it's a relatively simple way of adding fine texture to an otherwise smooth surface.

I wanted to save finishing the Monster for last, so the only thing left to do was the clear glassware pieces:

These all get glued together using Testors glue for clear parts.
I've been spoiled by the plastic weld and Superglue so I was dissapointed by the lengthy dry time...

Again fallowing the suggestion in the tutorial book, I mixed up Freak Flex transparent tint paints (yellow and brown) to create an amber color that will be misted onto the parts.
This gives them a nice antiqued look.

You will see I used a piece of tape, sticky side up to hold them in place for airbrushing.
I made sure to give the parts some variance by going heavy on some, and lighter on others.
Some of the bottles I gently went heavier just on the rim and base to get a nice feathered effect.

One of the pieces was a bowl that was just screaming to have something put in it.
I tore off a piece of cotton ball, used tweezers to dunk it in my "Dexter" blood, and placed it in the bowl.
The horror fan in me likes the gory look, who knows what it could be, but Dr. Frankenstein aint' making Ramen noodles!

Some of the other bottles were dipped in transparent paint to give the look of having liquid in them.
Below, the end results.
All pieces were arranged to my liking and glued down using the clear parts glue.

It's amazing the way you painted those bottles. Fantastic paint job!

Guys, I'm humbled by your feedback!
This is only my second figure kit and I really enjoy doing them so far.
I already have a few candidates lined up for my next project.

I should have this one wrapped up soon.
I may put it up for sale but don't think it would sell...

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

The bottles look amazing. You've got an amazingly steady hand to do such detail work on the figures like her scars.

Here's a little improv detail I added.
The kit came with a few too many bottles to comfortably fit on the shelves, so I took one of them and shattered it using my sprue cutters.

I then created a liquid splatter on the base, just below the right side shelf, using Freak Flex transparent green.
Additional splatter added around the perimeter of the spill and some drips on the wall.

The pieces of bottle were arranged to my liking and glued down using Testors clear parts glue.

I am pleased with the results of this impromptu addition:

That's really a nice touch! I can almost see the chemical fumes rising from the debris. (y)thumbsup

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

What a wonderful build!

The paint jobs are absolutely first class - I really enjoyed looking at this thread.

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

Broken bottle is a great addition.gives it life. No pun intended

Glad you guys think the bottle detail looks good. I appreciate the support.

I should have images of the Monster's painted arms and head up soon.

Re: The Bride of Frankenstein by MOEBIUS - (build thread)

You should get a cotton ball (or a cotton swab) and use tweezers to pull off some strands to make cobwebs. They should attach just fine, if you use Elmer's white glue.
