The Book of Boba Fett

No to derail but
Does anyone know if there will be a gallery’s behind the scenes? Nothing on google search and there’s a lot to shift through in this forum finding any info on it
I’ve been hoping to see this as well. Unfortunately if my theory that they took the episode 5 and 6 material from Mando S3 is correct, we probably won’t get BOBF behind the scenes stuff released until after Mando S3.

Im totally against this whole technology, I don’t think it’s cool or more importantly “morally” right

If the actor/actress is alive and gives permission ok.. but now it seems that Disney thinks they own your likeness…

Another thing they have tried to do to make it feel alright is “we asked family members if we could use their likeness” which is fine..

But if I was an actor, I wouldn’t want someone cgi me.. even if my kids say it’s ok.. how can you check with the dead?

It’s not right..
The longer I think about it, the more I agree. Part of the beauty of life is that it doesn’t last forever. And the artistry and personality of a person can’t be truly resurrected, only their face. We can see this with Luke/Mark. The deepfake doesn’t emote or perform like an actor.

The lawyers are going to have a field day with all this. At the very least everyone is starting to realize that these conversations need to happen quick, and conditions need to be put in writing.

Wicked cool technology.. but if your dad was a movie star and passed away, do you think it’s cool they continue to make money off his likeness?

Hell George mcfly sued and won in court over the whole “using likeness” how they are getting away with this today beats me.. has to be something when you sign on for acting in the film

But that opens up another can of worms..

The technology will get to the point where we can’t tell the difference, and that’s what scares me lol

It's really not that different than using an actor's likeness in a video game, action figure or book cover. Owning the likeness is nothing new, afaik. Only now the tech has improved to the point new movies could theoretically be made, which I don't have a problem with, especially with living actors. Even with dead ones, as long as the estate is okay with it, I don't have an issue either.

I wouldn't worry by that point in time we will be able to be inserted into any movie of our choice..
Once they map out our brains and we are no longer fleshy things..
In all seriousness they mention 4D tech years back where the viewer could sit inside a movie.. that would be mad, I guess like a VR experience.

You're right Eruonen; discussion needs to start right now and fast. The old school of actors is not getting younger and since it's about cutting cost and making money; I don' t think the Studios are going to be happy to give part of their profits to the family of a dead actor:rolleyes:
Also the discussion concerning an actor, who started the movie, but for X,Y,Z problems died mid-production or some other kind of stuff that could lead the suits to say: "Hey, we have the tech and a bank of images and we could finish the movie without him/her!

The Crow for Brandon Lee and Gladiator for Oliver Reed already did it way back..
RIP..

Obviously the tech gets better all the time those movies were composite Still images of the Actor mapped on other actors..
And of course this rather well known talented Actor

Lather up with Leia!

Actor likeness and merchandising has been a thing for a while. Similar to how home video and then New Media changed SAG and other unions contracts its safe to say digital recreations of actor likeness will end up in a standard entertainment contract. The real trick will be preserving those original scans over time. Technology advances and software changes. We've already seen how mislabeled files end up as another actor. Roland Kickinger was scanned for Terminator Salvation then those files were used as Arnold is Genisis as they were labeled as Arnold during a change of hands. Roland didn't get a penny from it but Arnold did.

There is a potential Grey area as well. If and when a film falls out of copyright and is deemed public domain does that open the floodgates to digital recreation of those characters? What is there to stop a Waxwork type of film from happening with actors digitally recreated as characters from those public domain films and media? Ethics have been brought up but how many times have we seen cheap Elvis items for sale or plastic religious items that look like something out of a Dali painting. A digital actor recreation is no longer a living and breathing human. It's simply an animation.
