The Book of Boba Fett

My pet theory on this is that the divorce during ROTJ broke George, and his former love for Marcia curdled into a resentment that he ever loved her. (Being a child of divorced parents, I speak from some experience here.) Star Wars – which as we know she was originally such a creative influence on – become a proxy for his desire to never have gotten involved with her; basically, the creative team at LucasFilm and us the audience all living inside his bad divorce.

I have thought of something similar. It's a love/hate push-n-pull, the way I've seen it. I've seen this with Hideaki Anno with Evangelion. You said all you wanted to say originally years ago in what became your masterwork, and there was a lot of good and bad that went into it; but people want more, and not just more, but more of the same. So as time progresses, and you're working on the same thing you already detached yourself from, you revisit and change ideas just to keep yourself from getting bored. George is business-savy enough to let others play with his "universe" to keep the name alive and keep his company afloat (when he had it), but as we have seen and continue to see, it just becomes a stagnant beast that eats and regurgitates its own feces.

RR is directing the last episode. Not happy with it but we are also leading to a lot of action in the finale, which is typically strong suit. Though I want more “Desperado” from him and less “Spy Kids”.

While I think no matter what he does this will end up being a weak Boba Fett show, it’s rounded out to be a very interesting Star Wars show. EP 2, 5, and 6 will be rewatched many times over the next few months. If there is a S2 or the story continues in Mando S3 then maybe we’ll look back on this as more of a warm up for Bobas story. Like a 12 episode arc for him to ascend to the throne would suddenly make the pacing of his story here more understandable. In either case, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. They’ll keep featuring him in future shows, so it’s possible.
Maybe will see what we saw in mando season 2… one can hope!

So my thoughts. The Luke and Grogu stuff was....okay. I enjoyed see the training temple getting built. But we know Grogu is going back to Mando, unless Dave is going to retcon the films, and really have Grogu be Luke's first student. Dave seems to be tossing aside the comics, but I don't think he toss the films so quickly.

But....guys.....Cad freaking Bane!!!!!!!! Oh man, Boba and him are going to have showdown...I can feel it......
Is my memory correct.. Ben and those students were Luke’s first right? Luke says his first students in ep8 right?

Even if Vanth didn’t have armor, it’s going to be hard for them to justify him dying that easily after they brought Fennec back from the dead.
I am a huge fan of him, but I think he needs to die to get the towns people to revoke and help the mando

Other wise.. freetown will be turned to… slave town.. yup Disney I said it!

So apparently Lucasfilm is very much aware of Yoda's lightsaber.

Also from Wookieepedia

The 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations depicts the lightsaber as being stored in a box in Yoda's Hut by the time of the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[14] However, the 2017 comic Darth Vader (2017) 1 states that it was destroyed during a celebration of the eradication of the Jedi Order.[3] When asked about this, writer Charles Soule mused that perhaps Yoda built a new one, that he had more than one or that Darth Sidious built a fake to make a point.[15] Lucasfilm Story Group's Matt Martin then stated that they are aware of that but that it isn't an error as Yoda likely had more than a few lightsabers during his lifetime.[16]
I like the sidous theory..

From a story perspective, I agree, it’s better that way. I’m saying they have put themselves in a bit of a pickle, because they have shown that dying isn’t as final as previously thought.

So maybe just an Easter egg, but maybe more.....

Barriss Offee's crest is seen in Grogu's flashback.

Mixed feelings: sometimes Luke’s hair was right (covering his ears more, which didn’t look right to me that it didn’t in S2 of Mando), but sometimes it looked kind of bad, like it was amateurishly cut on set to look like Luke.

Someone needs to get proper screencaps, but check out that first thing. Looks familiar.

Coincidentally I just finished reading that Darth Vader omnibus yesterday. This is why I've never been a huge fan of 'mixed-media' storytelling cannon. I like how the MCU and Marvel Comics for example are separate; the storylines can be pulled from the comics and translated into a movie format. Having Star Wars comics be cannon gets confusing because the way you tell a story through that media is extremely different and requires you to have read it to understand certain things in movies or shows (Black Krrsantan for example).

Tell me I'm missing out but this is partly why I've never actually watched 'The Clone Wars'. I know quite well who Ashoka and Cad Bane are but I'm not sure I'm willing to sit down and watch hours of a Cartoon Network show with that prequel-humour and annoying battle droids even if there are some great storylines and characters. I believe people when they say it's good but idk; I'm sure ill come round to it. Between the live-action, cartoon, books, comics and games it all becomes a little muddled.
I watched the Dendi Tartoski ? Cartoons more for their Samuri Jack
I have a Theory...

What a treat. When the episode was called an unexpected ally, (or something like that) I was thinking it was Vance. Now that he’s dead, is the ally Luke?

Other than a couple of dragging minutes toward the end of act three, it was awesome!

Vanth was clearly winged in the shoulder. He’s down, but not out.

He was just lazing about town; he wasn’t expecting a showdown. So unless he always walks around armored, I don’t think he was wearing any in this ep.

Even if he had armor on his chest like Eastwood, a.) again, shoulder; and b.) it wouldn’t be beskar. Boba‘s entire armor set seemed intact when he recovered it in “The Tragedy,” and I think he’d have an issue if something large enough to admit a chest was missing.

Bane got the drop on Vanth, probably in large part because the latter was distracted by/worried about the deputy. One wonders how that gunfight would have gone down if the deputy went inside as ordered so Vanth could focus solely on Bane.

That said, I would not be surprised to see another Vanth-Bane quick-draw showdown later on where Favreau does crib from “Fistful of Dollars” and Vanth does wear a chest plate.
I am still wondering if Din also gave him a mesh vest as a Thankyou for giving Boba his Armour back...

Once again, haven’t caught up totally with the thread, but here goes.

Sigh. A lotta things right in this episode. Maybe more wrong.

First off, when it was first rumored in S2 of the Mandalorian that Asohka would appear, I said that I didn’t like the idea, but that if they’d pulled off the character better than the cartoons, I’d eat my words. Well, that time has come…for Cad Bane. Yep, still think Rosario is actually worse than the cartoon by virtue of being totally bland and talking like a prequel Jedi. But, Bane was realized really well and had a very menacing presence. To me, big improvement. His face was super expressive and disturbing in a great way. The parts involving Mos Pelgos, Vanth, and Bane were some of the better parts of the episode. Very Sergio Leone.

On to…the not so great parts.

To start off on a high note, Luke’s face doesn’t just look better, it looks astoundingly better. It’s not even that it looks necessarily “exactly” like him, but it looks like a real human face the whole time. His voice is still flat and robotic, which turned me off quite a bit. The training felt very amateurish and underwritten. “Look, Luke runs through the woods like Dagobah! He does a flip!” I wish he’d had a more interesting outfit as well. It felt very low-effort. I’ll swing back around to Luke in a second, because I have bigger problems.

The kid…I feel should have grown and maybe even starting speaking, if even just a little. Furthermore, I really don’t appreciate being reminded of some of the worst changes made to Yoda in the prequels. I don’t want to see Baby Yoda flipping around like AOTC, and I don’t think Yoda would have had a lightsaber. But it’s all worse than that.

Everyone cried over TLJ, saying Luke was ruined, and how he wasn’t the same character, and yet I haven’t seen anyone say the same thing here, despite him being ruined far worse. Of all things they could have had him say, in my opinion the worst was to reinforce the dogmatic view of prequel Jedi towards attachment. He, of all people, would accept that the least. I’m very frustrated that no one seems to care that they’ve replaced literally the hero of an entire generation with another bland, sterile, cardboard cutout prequel Jedi with no personality, humanity, individuality, warmth, or any other quality he had in the OT. People are just “so happy to see him do what he did in their headcanon/fanfiction”.
Yeah but we've only seen Master Luke..its not like your teachers at school were all fun time Freddie..

Let's see what he's like when he...
"Kicks his Boots off "

The thing about Luke, is he's been told to continue the Jedi. Cool. But what are the Jedi? What are the Jedi to Luke? He done dropped out of Jedi school. He's clueless. He's going to struggle with this. The Jedi lost their way, Obi-Wan, and particularly Yoda are very aware of this. I mean look at Yoda teaches Luke. He doesn't teach him how to fight. Or how to use a lightsaber. He teaches him peace and pacifism. He completely dismisses war.
Yup. Grogu destroys the remote with the Force and Luke says "good"?! What happened to "the Force is used for knowledge and defense, never for attack"?

I hated to think this as I was soaking in long-wanted OT Luke goodness, but the training scenes were a little long. Nice improved CG, but I agree the voice needs work. I don't understand why they'd choose an AI over just using Hamill. So his voice is older, so what. We need his performance.

Teeny tiny training remote nit: in its modern appearances the prop has been recreated the same size as the original bluescreen model. But the way it was composited into the scene in ANH would indicate in-universe it's closer to the size of a softball.

Anyway, I tend to post beefs more often than the praise I do feel, so I must say for the most part I loved this.

I thought it seemed a little big…
